Associate Director of
Library Services, Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP (NY)
The Associate Director of Library Services will provide
vision, direction, and leadership necessary to ensure that the Cravath Library
supports and aligns with the Firm’s strategic and operational goals efficiently
and cost-effectively while continuously seeking innovations and opportunities
to improve research and the Firm’s access to information.
Job Responsibilities
include: Working closely with the Director to ensure the effective and balanced
delivery of services, knowledge and information resources throughout the Firm;
establishing quantitative and qualitative methods for measuring the
effectiveness and quality of services and products; preparing and monitoring
the Library’s annual operating budget; overseeing systems and procedures for
detailed and summary expenditure tracking and analysis; identifying,
recommending and implementing billing policies and cost management
opportunities; managing the department’s staffing structure, job descriptions,
and performance standards; ensuring ongoing training and professional
development of staff members; participating in contract negotiations for print
and electronic information resources used by the Firm; ensuring the Firm’s
compliance with contractual and licensing agreements; overseeing and
maintaining the timely, cost effective and efficient delivery of the full range
of research services; managing and maintaining the Library OPAC and related
technologies; monitoring innovations in Library technology and processes to
enhance the Firm’s ability to find, access, and reuse Library systems and
resources; participating in or leading special projects as required; and performing
other duties as assigned or needed.
Job Requirements include: Master’s degree in Library Science from
an accredited library school; 10+ years of experience in the library and
information management field, including significant experience in large law
firms; 5+ years of management experience, including supervision, strategic
planning, project development and implementation; knowledge of library
operations in a law firm setting, including resource development, research
services and products, and information systems, technologies and applications;
knowledge of business operations in a law firm setting, including budgeting,
fund accounting, cost recovery, contract and licensing negotiation, marketing, and
personnel management; ability to develop creative and cost-effective solutions
to library and research challenges; excellent oral and written communication
skills; ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple
priorities under tight deadlines; ability to lead, work independently, and be a
team player when required; and strong commitment to excellence and customer
service orientation.
