Job Description:
The Archivist and Scholarly
Communication Librarian is responsible for managing all of the library's archival
collections in both physical and digital formats. The Archivist and Scholarly
Communication Librarian will also encourage campus participation in the
Institutional Repository and educate the campus community on issues involving
Open Access, Open Educational Resources, and Fair Use/Copyright. This is a
tenure track academic position.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Identify, collect, arrange, and describe college
records of enduring value in a variety of formats.
- Manage and curate Library Special Collections.
- Promote the use and understanding of the Archives to
researchers, students, alumni, college personnel, and the public.
- Oversee and participate in digitization projects
involving archival materials.
- Grow and develop the Library's Institutional Repository.
- Assists faculty, staff, and students in curating
meaningful digital collections and scholarly content in the Institutional
Repository.
- Bring visibility on campus to current issues in
scholarly communication including Open Access and Fair Use.
- Promote the history of the college through events,
exhibits, presentations, and other outreach activities.
- Pursue grants related to the curation and digitization
of the college's Archives and Special Collections.
- As part of the library faculty team, participate in
library education programs (information literacy, reference and
information desk, liaison to academic departments, creation of electronic
instructional content).
- As a member of the faculty, serve on various
campus-wide committees, SUNY-wide committees and the college governance.
- As library faculty, makes scholarly contributions to
the profession.
- Other tasks as assigned as relevant to abilities and
experience.
Requirements:
Required Experience:
- MLS or equivalent degree
- Minimum of two years of demonstrated experience
arranging and describing archival records in a variety of formats (analog
and digital; paper, photographs, video).
- Extensive coursework or training in archival
management, theory, and best practices.
- Working knowledge of current archival and metadata
standards such as DACS, Dublin Core, MODS, and METS.
- Working knowledge of issues pertaining to scholarly
communication and Open Access.
- Demonstrated practical knowledge of archival policies
and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to encourage use of and
participation in archival and repository collections.
- Experience working with both large and small digital
collections including creating metadata.
- Familiarity with both analog and digital preservation.
- Effective oral and written communication.
- Excellent organizational skills and effectiveness in
balancing multiple assignments and projects.
- Proven examples of working under strict deadlines.
- Ability to work harmoniously and effectively with
members of a diverse team.
- Physical ability to lift boxes weighing 40 pounds and
to climb and handle boxes on a mobile ladder.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in another academic discipline
- Knowledge of current issues and developments in library
and archival science in the domain of research data curation and scholarly
communication.
- Knowledge of digital library technologies and related
accepted best practices.
- Experience processing born-digital collections
(including the filtering of personal, classified, or proprietary
information).
- Proven ability to provide digital preservation services
for archival collections (with workflows that include regular refreshing,
migration, and/or conversion along with verifying data authenticity).

Classification/Salary Range:
The Archivist & Scholarly
Communication Librarian is a United University Professions position. The
anticipated salary range for this position is $47,835 to $52,000 annually, with
an outstanding benefits package. Salary will commensurate with
experience. Review of application will commence immediately and conclude when
position is filled.
Special Notes: This is a full time calendar year appointment UUP position.
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime
provisions of the FLSA.
