Natural Resources Research Manager New York City (Other locations, Philadelphia, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Cleveland)
Pro Libra is searching for a Natural Resources Research Manager for its client, a global consultancy. The successful candidate will possess deep research and analysis expertise, shaping research, analysis and insights that will enable them and their clients to generate global impact through identification, development and implementation of proprietary and innovative ideas.
Basic Qualifications:
* Bachelor's Degree
* Minimum of 10 years of business research experience
Preferred Skill Requirements:
* Knowledge of the steel and minerals industry: the global markets; supply chain and manufacturing; the players; the critical metrics for evaluating company performance; cost drivers; the way companies work behind the scenes (back office functions and processes, technologies). You must be comfortable with industry-speak and be able to make a favorable impression with peers and executives in the industry. The position’s primary research focus will be on steel, with a strong secondary focus on mining
* Leadership: as the global lead for our natural resources research you’ll need excellent leadership and people management skills, including the ability to develop and motivate researchers in a team that is truly global and virtual
* Research skills: preferably in a consulting environment, equity brokerage, third party research organization, steel industry or demonstrated equivalent skill. You must have the ability to take an issue and turn it into a researchable question; able to scope the research effort and cost it accurately; able to use most (but not necessarily all) research techniques such as secondary database searching, company analysis, market analysis, strategic analysis frameworks, interview-based research and financial analysis. You must have a sound knowledge of industry sources and be able to critique them.
* Analytical ability: we want researchers who can draw out the implications of the research they do and tell a compelling, business-focused story about the data that is relevant to our clients business and clients
* Personal credibility: to be successful in this role you need to be able to build a strong working relationship with senior executives and industry leaders and “hold your own” with them in discussions about the industry. So you will be confident, outgoing, able to talk knowledgeably about your subject; but never arrogant. You also need to be able to build relationships within our team and work with others in person and remotely on projects
Professional Skill Requirements:
* Teaming and communication skills: you will need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills. You should demonstrate an ability to work with colleagues from different cultures and in different locations. Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team (involving mix of consulting, industry and/or functional research professionals). Experience of working in a remote/virtual team would be highly advantageous
* Ability to quickly establish credibility: many of our customers are senior-level leaders within the company and it is vital that we are able to establish both our expertise and our professionalism
* Strong presentation and communication skills: able to present research findings to customers, and defend their insights. Good communicators and confidence in a virtual network. You must be able to work in PowerPoint and create well-structured, clearly written presentations with graphs and charts where necessary
* Leadership: Demonstrated leadership in a professional setting; either military or civilian. People management/supervisory experience a plus
* Teamwork and Collaboration: Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration in a professional setting; either military or civilian
