Information Coordinator, Baker & Taylor – NJ

Baker & Taylor seeks Information Coordinator at its Bridgewater, New Jersey facility.  This role reviews, edits, manipulates, appends, styles, and validates the accuracy of incoming metadata from publishers before loading the metadata to the corporate product database which supports, sales, merchandising, and operations for both physical and digital products. Accuracy and attention to detail is essential for this position.  Position ensures that all required data elements are present and correctly coded which is necessary for data discovery for internal and external customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop in-depth knowledge of product database, style rules, subject classification, and publisher output to produce high quality work that needs little or no review.
Analyzing incoming metadata:
·        Develop knowledge of database rules and make decisions regarding metadata content and quality.
·        Style title, subtitle, series title and author names according to B&T style rules.
·        Edit and manipulate data that is not fielded correctly (edition, series, series number, and subtitle).
·        Ensure that BISAC subjects are appropriately assigned and in the preferred hierarchy.
·        Select and assign new BISAC subjects that reflect the title content if necessary.
·        Convert interest levels into standard U.S. grade levels.
·        Validate discounts, vendor and imprint with information on corporate vendor file
·        Determine new imprints, distribution changes, discount discrepancies and notify  merchandising or publisher relations group for vendor update.
·        Perform quality check – reviews accuracy and completeness of metadata.
·        Perform editorial review of peers work.
·        Develop and manage workload to ensure SLA’s and productivity levels are met.
·        Research and resolve metadata conflicts found during file processing.
·        Communicate directly with publishers to resolve metadata or file issues.
Requirements:Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 year degree and at least a year experience in bookstore, publishing, or library environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of PC applications (Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, Outlook).  Excellent typing skills.
  • Responsible for interpreting and applying departmental policies, and for initialing and applying departmental methods and procedures to see that policies are maintained and that interpretations are in accordance with established standards.
  • Work requires ingenuity to plan and implement projects under general supervision, to examine advanced subjects, to use independent judgment to make decisions under established policies and to compose technical copy.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.  Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization
