Electronic Resources Librarian
 


Required Qualifications


·    Graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited degree program.
·    Knowledge of trends and practices in e-resource and serials management.
·    Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other individuals and groups to find solutions.
·    Evidence of flexibility, innovative thinking, professional growth, and a vision for the future of academic libraries.
·    Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate clearly and professionally with others.
Preferred Qualifications


·    Additional advanced degree.
·    Experience working with electronic resources in academic libraries.
·    Knowledge of acquisition modules of a library management systems and electronic resources management systems.
·    Demonstrated ability to anticipate user needs and seek ways of providing satisfactory solutions.
·    Evidence of analytical, organizational, communication, project, and time management skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and complete tasks and projects on time and within budget and in accordance with task/project parameters.
Responsibilities & Requirements


·    Manage e-resource lifecycle for serials, e-books, datasets, and streaming video, including, record maintenance, purchasing, renewing, invoicing, reporting, and activation.
·    Work closely with vendors, library IT, librarians, faculty, and end users on troubleshooting to create an excellent user experience.
·    Develop and improve workflows and practices to ensure integrity of financial data and process efficiency.
·    Manage print serials including binding in collaboration with other library units.
·    Assist Head of Content Acquisitions & Services to assess the performance of the unit and develop improvement plans.
·    Contribute as a member of the acquisitions team to develop unit goals, policies, procedures, priorities, and staffing decisions.
·    Participate in liaison, reference and instruction duties.
·    Participate in research, publication, teaching and service in consonance with University standards for promotion and tenure.

This is a tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Stony Brook Libraries are known for a wide-range of print and digital resources and world-renowned special collections. The Stony Brook Libraries belong to the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), with a Health Sciences Center Library that is a member of the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries. The Libraries are engaged in an ambitious and dynamic strategic planning (2015-2018). The collection exceeds 2 million volumes, including e-books, print and electronic holdings of scholarly journal subscriptions, microforms, music recordings, and a sizable map collection. The SBU Libraries include 6 distinct facilities, including Melville Library, Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry, Math/Physics, Southampton and and Health Sciences Libraries, and SUNY Korea-SBU campus. The University's Libraries stand as the largest academic research library on Long Island, serving as a resource in the local community, state-wide, and nationally and internationally. The Libraries maintain memberships and affiliations in arXiv, Association of Research Libraries, SPARC, Center for Research Libraries, SUNY Connect, DuraSpace (as a SUNY member) the Council on Library and Information Resources, Digital Library Federation, Coalition of Networked Information, EDUCAUSE, Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research, Roper Center, OCLC Research Library Partnership, and ORCID through the National Network of the National Libraries of Medicine. The Libraries utilize Ex Libris' Aleph for its integrated library system and have recently deployed EBSCO's Discovery Service, DSpace, Content DM, and Omeka, are used for managing digital assets and a growing Institutional Repository.

This is an entry-level tenure track position and reports to the Head of Content Acquisitions & Services. The librarian is responsible for management, policy, planning, and advocacy for electronic and print serials support within the SBU Libraries. This includes acquisitions, receipt, and processing of electronic and print serials, binding operations, workflow implementation, maintenance and review of serial subscriptions in both vendor and library systems. S/he responds to the injury about journal subscriptions and serial gifts, and review the vendor products. The Librarian assumes a leadership role in support of workflows committed in acquiring, describing, and providing access to serial collections in all mediums and languages. The Librarian will align all processes and practices within the framework of SBU Libraries organizational initiatives, foster innovation, and implement constructive change as a part of evolving faculty roles in support of strategic directions. This position works closely with vendors, librarians, faculty and staff across all campuses and libraries.
