POSITIONS AVAILABLE: Hourly / Substitute Librarian 

The North Castle Public Library has Hourly Librarian positions open. Weekday, Saturday, and evening availability is a requirement for this position. This position will be scheduled for a maximum of seventeen (17) hours per week.

Duties include:

  • Providing reference and readers’ advisory services to library users;

  • Instructing public on the effective use of library resources, including online resources;

  • Assisting in collection development, including selection and weeding of library materials;

  • Performing on-line searches of computer databases;

  • Assisting with or leading library programs, including book groups, story times and other public programs as needed;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Position requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science (will accept resumes with expected graduation date May 2025);

  • Possession of a current New York State Public Librarian’s Professional Certificate (must obtain New York State Public Librarian’s Professional Certificate within 60 days of hire date if expected graduation date is May 2025);

  • Working knowledge of modern principles and practices of library science;

  • Working knowledge of on-line database systems and bibliographical tools;

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;

  • Ability to work as part of a team;

  • Courtesy and professionalism while interacting with staff and public.

Overview
The Wyandanch Public Library seeking an enthusiastic, Creative, Friendly and flexible librarian to join

Librarian III, the Librarian works as part of the WPL team and performs basic library work with a strong

The College of Westchester, located in White Plains, NY, is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Librarian. The successful candidate will oversee all functions of the library, including circulation desk operations, assisting users with coursework research on the internet and e-databases, providing bibliographic instruction to students, and responding to questions related to relevant resources for college-level research. Additionally, the Librarian will be an integral part of the testing center, supporting its operations and assisting students as needed.

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES

MTA Bridges and Tunnels, aka, Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority or “TBTA,” seeks a Special Archive & Library Specialist to assist in the preservation, organization, and accessibility of its historical collections. These collections include long-time Chairman Robert Moses' TBTA papers, engineering drawings, corporate records, artifacts, film footage, architectural models, and print and digital photographs. This role provides critical research support to internal departments such as the Internal Security Department (ISD), Maintenance, Office of the President, and Construction & Development Engineering teams by maintaining and retrieving historical records related to the planning and construction of the Authority's seven bridges and two tunnels.

The specialist will also catalog new acquisitions, apply basic preservation techniques, and ensure the archive continues to document the agency's evolving history. In addition, the role will be involved in programming, exhibit design, reference, and the provision of documentation to internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and retrieve historical records for internal departments.
  • Maintain and organize archives dating from 1933 to the present.
  • Catalog new acquisitions, documents, artifacts, and photographs.
  • Apply basic preservation methods to protect historical materials.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive digitization program aligned with industry standards.
  • Educate engineers, architects, and consultants on standards and practices for documentation.
  • Assist in historical exhibits, respond to reference requests, contribute to employee newsletters, and provide educational tours for students and staff.

This role plays a vital part in ensuring the preservation and accessibility of TBTA's historical legacy while supporting critical operational and engineering decisions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in History (or related fields) and three (3) years professional experience as an archivist, with knowledge of archival and/or library best practices

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Minimum of 2 years working with born-digital photographs, and hands-on experience using metadata schemas and application of Dublin Core standards

Knowledge of the life cycle of records.

Familiarity with professional concepts such as provenance, and the organization of institutional records

Knowledge of the preservation requirements for different records' formats, both physical and digital

Knowledge of best practices in cataloging and organizing data

Knowledge of best methods to acquire digital photographs-understanding of different methods of backing up digital files

Understanding of the life cycle of digital photographs

SUMMARY:


The New York Transit Museum is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Rights and Reproductions
Coordinator to join the Museum’s Collections Department. The Coordinator will oversee the
Department’s reproduction request process by fulfilling requests and managing licensing contracts of
archival reproductions. This position also plays a critical role in promoting and providing access to the
Museum's extensive collection related to New York's public transit history.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Rights-related reference services: Answer inquiries from internal and external userbase on all
parts of the permissions and reproductions process; Provide proper image caption/credit lines
for all shared images.
• Determine rights statuses: Conduct research to determine intellectual property rights status,
including copyright and third-party rights for works in the collection; Secure image rights for use
in publications, exhibitions, and website, as well as for public relations, marketing, and
commercial use.
• Digitization: Digitize selected archival and artifactual objects, with special attention to requests
made by Curatorial for publication, exhibitions, and related initiatives.
• Cataloging: Item-level cataloging of (largely) visual materials that have been recently digitized.
• Manage licensing contracts: Manage and update licensing agreements for items currently in the
Museum’s collection, including terms of use, credit lines, fees, and restrictions; Assist Registrar
with licensing agreements for new acquisitions.
• Manage payments: Collect and process payment for fee-based requests using Altru payment
management system.
• Record keeping: Manage/update collections database records of copyright information in
PastPerfect.
• Policy development: Develop and update intellectual property best practices for a museum
environment; Maintain Rights and Reproductions Fee Schedule; Guide Museum staff on
copyright basics.
• Intra-departmental collaboration: Liaise with other Museum departments as needed for
clearing image use permissions.
• Outreach: Lead outreach strategy development to promote awareness and accessibility of the
Museum’s digital collections.
• Data management and digital preservation: Assist with ongoing initiatives to organize born-
digital records and enhance metadata and associated descriptions.
• Other duties as assigned: Participate in collections processing, exhibition development, social
media content creation, public programs, and special events as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:


• Master’s degree in Library & Information Science preferred; or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant
area of study with substantial experience in rights management, digital project management, or
contracts negotiation, preferably in a museum, archive, or library setting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications, Adobe Photoshop, and experience with
scanning equipment and digital capture software.

Overview

As the largest circulating branch in the NYPL system, this library is a vital hub for library patrons in and around the City of New York and serves as a bridge between our neighborhood libraries and in-depth research library collections.

They must work collaboratively within the SNFL team and with BookOps to assess art collection performance and advise on art collection strategy; they should also keep up-to-date on the usage of the collection and suggest changes to SNFL leadership accordingly.   • Oversee daily operations in the branch, including information services and circulation, while providing reference and reader services

The James E. Tobin Library at Molloy University seeks an Electronic Resources Librarian. This is an in-person/on-campus 35 hour per week, 52 week a year position with the option for one remote day per week. 

 
The Electronic Resources Librarian is responsible for managing and troubleshooting the library’s online and subscription resources. They monitor and run frequent analyses on usage to ensure the resources meet the needs of the library and the university’s curriculum.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
 
  • ·     Ensures that the library’s electronic resources perform properly and add value to our patrons by:
    • Supporting and troubleshooting the daily operation of electronic resources, which includes subscription databases and collections, proxy server, OpenURL management, the library's CMS presence, a variety of hosted environments/external websites and other digital systems and services through which patrons locate information
    • Serving as the technical liaison between the library and numerous third party systems (i.e., database aggregators and other providers of electronic content) as well as Molloy’s IT department
    • Recommending, implementing, and supporting emerging technologies (e.g. mobile apps, chat etc.)
    • Creating content for the library's webpages to be reviewed by the library’s approver in the CMS
    • Ensuring resources are both discoverable and readily available from both on and off campus
    • Monitoring various listservs and other vendor communication channels that specifically report on electronic resources and other performance issues  
 
 
  • Manages and assesses electronic resources (databases, collections, ejournals) :
    • Support the full life cycle of electronic resources including trials, subscriptions, budgeting, activating/deactivating, troubleshooting, evaluating, and keeping abreast of best practices
    • Analyzing and interpreting resource usage statistics, turnaways, historical trends, and anticipating future trends
    • Communicating with vendors in order to obtain the best optimization of the various products, including frequent platform upgrades, custom branding and linking to other library resources
    • Maintaining an electronic resource management (ERM) system in related areas
    • Working closely with subscription agents to negotiate subscription terms/licenses for electronic journals
    • Gathering, monitoring, and evaluating usage statistics related to single title ejournals including an analysis of overlap held in databases and ILL requests or available through other subscribed document delivery systems

FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The City College of New York Libraries seeks an experienced, forward-thinking, and creative professional to lead the librarians and paraprofessional staff in its Technical Services unit. Technical Services encompasses acquisitions, receiving, cataloging, material processing, serials management, e-resource management, and metadata creation. This position is pivotal to the efficient operation of the City College of New York Libraries, offering an opportunity to rethink and realign workflows, and optimize department operations. Reporting to the Associate Dean and Chief Librarian, the Chief of Technical Services will oversee the operational management of staff engaged in technical services activities and provide strategic direction to the unit. The incumbent is responsible for the administration and coordination of work, including the establishment and implementation of technical services policies, standards, and procedures related to material processing, serials, and other technical services functions.

The responsibilities of the Chief of Technical Services include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide vision and strategic direction for technical services operations across The City College of New York Libraries (CCNY Libraries)

  • Supervise the Cataloging & Metadata Services Librarian, the Collection Development & Acquisitions Assistant, and the Electronic Resources Librarian. Lead team in activities related to ordering, receiving, processing, acquisition, description, and management of library resources

  • Act as the chief technical resource for the catalog and bibliographic database, coordinating practices among units/departments within the Libraries

  • Coordinate the application of descriptive metadata schemas for digitized and born-digital content, ensuring metadata interoperability

  • Ensure high-quality standards in acquisitions, resource management, and descriptive frameworks across all formats. Identify and implement improvements to enhance service and efficiency within Technical Services

  • Perform related library faculty duties, including collection development, reference (in­-person and virtual), information literacy instruction, and liaising with faculty and academic departments. Serve on college, university, and/or departmental committees, and engage in professional development and scholarly activities. Serve as a member of the Libraries' leadership group, sharing management responsibility for the CCNY Libraries

  • Foster relationships with external partners, vendors, and consortia to enhance resource acquisition and management

  • Oversee the integration and optimization of library systems (e.g., ILS, discovery tools) to support resource management and user access

  • Manage and allocate the technical services budget, ensuring efficient use of resources

  • Provide professional development opportunities for staff, keeping them current on trends, standards, and technologies in technical services

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited program

  • Second Master's degree or PhD

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in cataloging, acquisitions, resource management, or a related field in an academic library setting

  • Strong knowledge of cataloging and metadata standards including MARC and RDA, and experience with integrated library systems (ILS)

  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience, with demonstrated leadership in staff management

  • Experience in managing acquisitions, including vendor relations, budgeting, and resource negotiations

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse stakeholders and departments

  • Experience managing budgets and procurement processes

  • Familiarity with state funding agencies and policies

  • Knowledge of linked data and metadata frameworks

  • Experience with electronic resources management and library discovery tools (e.g., Primo)

  • Familiarity with digital preservation practices

  • Knowledge of open access and scholarly communication

  • Experience using data and analytics to assess workflows and resource usage

  • Experience with Library System migrations or upgrades

Salary Range :

Assistant Professor: $90,375 - $99,532

Associate Professor: $100,329 - $110,641

Librarian for Journalism and Media, Culture and Communication


The New York University (NYU) Division of Libraries is seeking a Librarian for Journalism and Media, Culture and Communication situated in the Libraries’ Research & Research Services subdivision. This tenure-track faculty librarian supports research, scholarship, teaching and learning, and practice in the subject areas of journalism, communication, and media studies across the university. Building and sustaining strong relationships that foreground equity and inclusion, they serve as the liaison to the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute (Arts & Science) and the Department of Media, Culture and Communication (Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development).


The Librarian for Journalism and Media, Culture and Communication is intellectually curious, willing to learn, and responsive to the needs of the communities they support. They will:

  • build and maintain our research collections with an understanding of the complexities around collecting both analog and digital news, and audiovisual media;

  • foster proactive and agile outreach and communication practices;

  • provide research support directly to students and researchers, building on an existing robust, high-volume instruction and consultation program, with a focus on scale and innovation for future growth;

  • act as a connector and contributor to our current public and research services programs, helping to support both standard and new methods of research, scholarly inquiry, and practice, particularly those necessitated by new and emerging media;

  • take the lead in promoting vital 21st-century competencies like media literacy, visual literacy, data literacy, and AI literacy in scholars and practitioners in the fields of journalism, communication, and media studies.




This librarian works across organizational boundaries in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment. They work closely with colleagues across NYU Libraries globally, including our corps of 40+ liaison librarians serving the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. As a member of the Society, Culture, and Global Perspectives department within the Research and Research Services subdivision, they work particularly closely with social sciences and area studies liaisons who share a focus on interdisciplinarity and global perspectives.


Beyond fellow liaison librarians, the Librarian for Journalism and Media, Culture and Communication collaborates closely with library colleagues in teaching and learning, collection development, data services, metadata creation, and scholarly communication. Outside NYU, they represent the Division of Libraries in professional consortia and associations locally and nationally.



Research

Faculty librarians also pursue their own active research, contributing their expertise, experiences, creative or artistic outputs, and investigations to build new knowledge and make cultural contributions.   • Minimum one graduate degree (Master’s level or higher), conferred by start date, for consideration
