CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Baruch College’s Newman Library is currently seeking applicants for Assistant Archivist in its Archives and Special Collections Division.

Reporting to the Digital Initiatives Librarian, the Assistant Archivists will:

  • Accession, arrange, describe, and preserve archival collections

  • Provide archival reference services and onsite assistance to researchers, including student and class visits

  • Assist with digitization projects and other digital initiatives (such as web archiving and cataloging in ArchivesSpace)

  • Supervise student workers as needed

Please note: work will be done on-site at the Newman Library. Each Assistant Archivist will work approximately 15 hours per week and be reappointed on a semesterly basis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidates will have a Master's in Library Science (MLS) or closely related discipline along with aminimum of one year of experience working with archives and special collections materials (including internships, part-time, and/or temporary positions).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of standards, best practices, and trends regarding archival description, technology, and outreach

  • Familiarity with metadata and archival description standards (DACS, EAD, and Dublin Core)

  • Previous experience digitizing print collections

  • Working knowledge of ArchivesSpace or similar collection management software tools

COMPENSATION

The rate of pay starts at $46.49/hr and benefits information is available here .
