Job Description
The contract video editor will leverage skills in visual communication, information organization, storytelling, video editing, and post-production to process a large body of video and accompanying assets in a media asset management system. Experience with workflow for digitization of physical media, video editing, media management, and team communication is essential. The primary focus of this role is to convert audio-visual records currently maintained on obsolete formats or approaching obsolescence into a single universal suite of formats to ensure long-term preservation and compatibility with a media asset management (MAM) system. The role may also work with other digital asset and media asset types including other accompanying audiovisual, image, and
document types.

Duties
digitize, convert, and ingest physical media in a variety of formats;
organize, ingest, quality control, and sync videos;
create clips and edits video files;
prepare and manage transcripts, along with additional file preparation work;
review videos and manage other assets (e.g. audio, images, documents, and
transcripts) for quality assurance;
interface with on-premises video and media asset management system;
manage digital assets from capture to archiving including basic meta-tagging and
consistent file-naming;
enable quick and accurate processing, movement, and retrieval of assets in the
media asset management system;
set up assets for review and management in the media asset management
system;
assign tasks and comments on the video and associated files in the media asset
management system;
prepares files for use and final archiving in the media asset management system;
attends and participates in a series of meetings, workshops, and training;
contributes to workflow documentation, training, improvement, and streamlining
for video and other assets;
supports export and transfer packages of metadata and digital assets to internal
and external third parties as required;
 

documents and monitors storage environment, media containers, codecs, and
system health;

Professional Qualifications
one to three years of media production working with creating, editing, and
managing video, and other associated digital assets required;
digital portfolio of video editing and management work preferred;
knowledge and application of good practices and standards for audiovisual
editing and management;
project management experience;
demonstrated ability to systematize workflows and automate processes;
ability to contribute to the creation of easy-to-understand documentation, policies,
and reports for multiple audiences;
skilled in active listening, questioning, comprehension, and articulation,
especially as it relates to asset, hardware, software, networking, and workflow
situations;
demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds,
including staff in both technical and non-technical roles;
knowledge of rights management issues as they relate to audiovisual collection
management;
experience managing long-term storage;
working knowledge of a wide variety of audiovisual formats, with an emphasis on
digital file-based audio, document, image, and video formats;
able to work independently and with minimal daily supervision;

 
Education and Experience
academic or professional certificate, associate’s, bachelor's, or master's degree in broadcast media, cinematography, communications, digital media, film, interactive media, media production, movie making, video editing, and production and or equivalent experience required;
currently enrolled students seeking course credit, independent study, or internships are strongly encouraged to apply;

 
Technical Qualifications
experience working with the Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams required;
experience with digitization and storage of linear-tape-open (LTO) tapes, XDCAM discs, DVDCPro tapes, DVDs, Betacam, SP, DVCpro, Blu-ray, DVCproHD, mini-DVD, Mac and PC formatted hard drives, and other physical media preferred;
experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, including Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid, and/or Final Cut Pro, AWS Elemental preferred;
applied experience with XML preferred;
experience with Mac OS software and hardware required;
experience with a digital or media asset management system, such as axle.ai, preferred;
professional certificates for software and computer languages preferred.

Work Environment
requires on-site work to work with an on-premises database environment in a city government building;
remote or off-site work for this position is not available;
 

Compensation
offered on an hourly and part-time basis at a rate of $25 / per hour. Schedule to be agreed upon;
limited-term grant-funded position until December 2022 with the possibility to extend;

The Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment's mission is to support and strengthen New York City’s creative economy and make it accessible to all. This position works within one of MOME's five divisions, NYC Media, the city's official broadcast network and production group. NYC Media is the largest municipal television and radio
broadcasting entity in the country with a reach of 18 million viewers within a 50-mile radius of 4 Times Square. In addition to programming and operating the City-owned television channels and FM radio station, NYC Media films and broadcasts content as required by the City Charter, and provides the video of record for all official public
announcements for the Mayor and the City's administration, records and produces original programs for broadcast, and for use by the City's various governmental agencies.
