Immediate Opening: Reference & Young Adult Librarian Position

 
The Eastchester Public Library is seeking an energetic, customer service-oriented, tech-savvy Reference
& Young Adult Librarian. The deadline has been extended to Friday, June 24, 2022.

 

Responsibilities

 
● Provides reference, reader’s advisory service and computer and technology assistance to
adult and teen patrons
● Selects adult materials for acquisition and withdrawal, as assigned by department head
● Demonstrates a knowledge and appreciation of literature for young adults
● Develops and maintains the Young Adult collection, including fiction and nonfiction,
print and digital
● Designs, implements and evaluates programs and activities for young adults based on
their needs and interests. (Grades 6 - 12)
● Acts as a liaison with local private and public schools serving Grades 6 - 12
● Promotes, publicizes and represents young adult service and the library to the
community and local agencies in cooperation with other library departments
● Collaborates with Children’s Librarians on programming such as Battle of the Books and
Summer Reading Game
 

Qualifications

 
● ALA Accredited MLS/MLIS/MSLS degree and NYS Public Librarian Professional Certificate
● Strong knowledge of Young Adult literature and of public library trends and issues
● Ability to work well with public and foster positive relationships with library patrons
● Enthusiasm in planning and implementing Young Adult and/or Adult programming
● Familiarity with library-related technology (experience with Evergreen is a plus)
● Attention to detail and the ability to work well, independently and cooperatively with
library staff
● Excellent written and oral communications skills
● Flexibility to assist in all areas of public library service, including Children’s.
 

Note: This position requires two Saturdays per month (from September through June) and one
evening per week. This position is subject to Westchester County Department of Civil Service
approval as a Librarian I.
 

Compensation: Starting salary of $63,462, with an attractive benefits package including
