Job Summary

The Drexel University Libraries’ (DUL) Information Assistance Program supports efforts to empower the Drexel community with effective processes of finding, accessing, evaluating, and using information through guidance and personal consultation. Reporting to the Director, Library Services, the manager develops quality client experiences for inquiries made via the Libraries cyber platform, physical sites, or directly with staff regardless of whether the expected response is a simple statement of fact, suggestion of a tool or resource, or an extended information consultation. The manager leads a team of 2-4 librarian direct reports, several matrixed librarians, and a dozen or more matrixed library staff to collaboratively work with faculty, librarians, and students to provide intuitive assistance with information.

Provide disciplinary knowledge and expertise in the Social Sciences to support selection decisions for scholarly content and curricula support activities. Integrate knowledge of multiple literacies, information resources and information-seeking behaviors in collaboration with the curricula support program managed through development of collaborative relationships. Guide development of resources that guide and assist clients to find, access, evaluate and use information. Proactively contribute to strengthening the Libraries’ culture of diversity, equity, and inclusiveness. Manage both direct reports and a matrixed team of librarians and library staff who engage with students and faculty.

Essential Functions

  • Articulate the expectations of the Information Assistance program and success metrics, and design and develop the program’s services, guides, tools, and training.
  • Provide managerial program leadership to shape policy, build partnerships, anticipate trends, and gather data
  • Inspire self-directed learning by overseeing guidance and client-customized consultations offered by DUL through in-person, chat, phone, email, and event service venues
  • Assess impact of programmatic outputs on student academic success through data collection, formal feedback, and indirect measures
  • Contribute professionally through participation in campus activities, external service, and/or publication and presentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree, Library, and information studies
  • Minimum of 4 years related experience

  • Passionate, engaged, and self-motivated, willing to take on new challenges, able to solve problems with minimal supervision and eager to learn new knowledge and skills
  • Demonstrated managerial leadership experience or strong potential, with evidence of entrepreneurial and project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues to improve service quality
  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrated high degree of client service orientation and commitment to inclusiveness of diverse ideas and perspectives
  • Experience or demonstrated strong potential in supervision and mentoring others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic matrixed team environmen
  • Demonstrated involvement and contribution to the profession through service, presentations and/or publications
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and welcoming work environment in both physical and cyber space

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree, graduate coursework, and/or professional experience in education theory and practice
  • Experience working in a library or academic setting
