Publishing Associate, Practising Law Institute (PLI)

Join PLI and represent the legal community’s premier provider of continuing education and research services as a Publishing Associate in our New York office. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with interest in project management and/or the trafficking process related to book publishing.

Your responsibilities as Publishing Associate


o Coordinate all stages of updating two multi-volume series; Partnership Tax Practice Series and the 31 volume Corporate Tax Practice Series. This involves correspondence with contributors regarding deadlines, their contribution for the current year, contact information, and biographical information, and updating this information in PLI database.


o Communicate with outside book publishers to obtain reprint permission for tax series articles that have previously been published elsewhere. Update the electronic table of contents to reflect the copyright and reprint language required as a condition of granting reprint permission.


o Assist Course Handbook Managers by reviewing weekly course handbook submissions and preparing them for the production team.


o Write transmittal instructions for use by our outside production vendor, and ensure all requisite reprint permissions have been received, when necessary.


o Act as team player; cross train to support proofing and production of other Course Handbook manuscripts as assigned.


Qualified candidates will have:


• A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
• Accurate data entry skills along with strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Excellent written and oral communication, proofreading and organizational skills.
• Keen interest in or experience with library science or the publishing industry.
• A high degree of attention to detail is critical.
• Adobe Acrobat and InDesign experience is a plus.
• The successful candidate must also have the ability to work with little direct supervision.
• Ability to learn new systems and technology quickly.
