The Opportunity: You are a detail oriented and skilled researcher with excellent organizational skills and desire to be part of an integral team supporting the overall fundraising goals of the Wildlife Conservation Society. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Prospect Research, you will identify key prospects with capacity and propensity for significant contributions, prepare briefing materials/profiles to enable fundraisers to effectively cultivate and solicit these prospects, contributing significantly to the Global Resources team annual fundraising goals. 

Responsibilities: Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to: 

• Undertaking strategic review of WCS donor and constituent records. Update records in database as necessary. • Analyzing and reviewing wealth indicators, donor lists, and source materials to determine worth, giving propensity, philanthropic interests and connections to WCS trustees/constituents to ultimately rate prospects by potential and likelihood to give to WCS. 
• Utilizing databases (primarily DonorSearch) and other services to aid in strategic wealth screenings. 
• Developing new and update existing briefings/profiles on major prospects. Prepare research reports for senior fundraising and administrative staff. 
• Preparing event bios on guests for WCS events. 
• Monitoring media/publications/research source documents for new information on key prospects. 
• Assisting as needed with other research-related and Development projects. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

• BS/ BA degree and one to three years development, research or related experience.
• Excellent research and organizational skills, with thorough attention to detail. 
• Strong written and oral communications skills and multi-tasking ability. 
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office. 
• Familiarity with prospect research sources, techniques, and tools. 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s in Library and Information Science 
• Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or Salesforce 
• Experience with Lexis Nexis, as well as knowledge of New York’s philanthropic and financial community. 
• Intellectual curiosity and a strong interest in the WCS mission. 

Workplace Conditions and Environment: 

• Office environment with occasional work at WCS events in the evening / weekend (2-3 per year).
