Posting Summary | The Rutgers University Libraries seeks a
resourceful, agile, and user-oriented librarian to fill our Web Services
Librarian position. This is a new position within the recently formed
Shared User Services (SUS) unit, a dynamic and
innovative team of library faculty and staff responsible for
coordinating shared user services including the Libraries website,
discovery infrastructure, online reference and shared instruction
activities, and digital projects. This position will be responsible for
coordinating the planning, design, maintenance, and evaluation of the
Libraries web presence in order to improve the user experience,
particularly for using the Libraries resources and services. RESPONSIBILITIES: The key responsibilities of the Web Services Librarian are to: • Plan, organize, and effect initiatives aimed at improving the Libraries website design and functionality for Rutgers students and faculty; • Lead the Libraries effort to provide accurate and lucid information about resources, services, spaces, and programs; • Establish content guidelines and best practices to apply accessibility standards, visual identity policies, and authentication requirements to make the website easy to navigate; • Conduct continuous analysis and evaluation of the website in a dynamic improvement cycle; • Provide leadership and expertise for all units of the Libraries to create a website that is responsive to a diverse and inclusive learning community. This position will collaborate with other librarians and staff at the Libraries to effect a cohesive integration of discovery tools, online reference services, and library communications. This position will lead a Library-wide web services team. Members of this team will recommend, specify, test, and implement the features, services, and infrastructure necessary to the smooth functioning of a complex library web environment. As the primary point of contact and coordinator for the Libraries web presence, this position has oversight for resolving web usability issues as well as identifying and advancing enhancements. This tenure-track position reports to the Director of Shared User Services, is based in the Alexander Library, and is a member of the Libraries Faculty, a team of librarians committed to providing first-rate public services to a diverse academic community. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to continual professional development through scholarly research including publications, presentations, and participation and leadership in the work of relevant professional associations. |
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience | Required: Master’s degree from an ALA
accredited program; work experience or demonstrated proficiency in web
design standards and best practices, information architecture, content
strategy, and user interface design including user-centered, responsive,
accessible, and universal design principles; experience designing and
delivering services for a diverse population and supporting a diverse
and inclusive learning and working environment; experience with user
research methods, website assessment, and web analytics software;
ability to work collegially in a team-oriented environment; excellent
interpersonal, communication, and organization skills; eligibility to
work in the United States. Preferred: Three years professional experience in an academic setting; experience working with library applications and content management systems; working knowledge of web programming languages such as HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript; proficiency with prototyping, graphic design, and multimedia software; creativity, artistry, and flair. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. |
