Posting Summary The Rutgers University Libraries seeks a resourceful, agile, and user-oriented librarian to fill our Web Services Librarian position. This is a new position within the recently formed Shared User Services (SUS) unit, a dynamic and innovative team of library faculty and staff responsible for coordinating shared user services including the Libraries website, discovery infrastructure, online reference and shared instruction activities, and digital projects. This position will be responsible for coordinating the planning, design, maintenance, and evaluation of the Libraries web presence in order to improve the user experience, particularly for using the Libraries resources and services.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The key responsibilities of the Web Services Librarian are to:

• Plan, organize, and effect initiatives aimed at improving the Libraries website design and functionality for Rutgers students and faculty;


• Lead the Libraries effort to provide accurate and lucid information about resources, services, spaces, and programs;


• Establish content guidelines and best practices to apply accessibility standards, visual identity policies, and authentication requirements to make the website easy to navigate;


• Conduct continuous analysis and evaluation of the website in a dynamic improvement cycle;


• Provide leadership and expertise for all units of the Libraries to create a website that is responsive to a diverse and inclusive learning community.


This position will collaborate with other librarians and staff at the Libraries to effect a cohesive integration of discovery tools, online reference services, and library communications. This position will lead a Library-wide web services team. Members of this team will recommend, specify, test, and implement the features, services, and infrastructure necessary to the smooth functioning of a complex library web environment. As the primary point of contact and coordinator for the Libraries web presence, this position has oversight for resolving web usability issues as well as identifying and advancing enhancements.

This tenure-track position reports to the Director of Shared User Services, is based in the Alexander Library, and is a member of the Libraries Faculty, a team of librarians committed to providing first-rate public services to a diverse academic community. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to continual professional development through scholarly research including publications, presentations, and participation and leadership in the work of relevant professional associations.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Required: Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program; work experience or demonstrated proficiency in web design standards and best practices, information architecture, content strategy, and user interface design including user-centered, responsive, accessible, and universal design principles; experience designing and delivering services for a diverse population and supporting a diverse and inclusive learning and working environment; experience with user research methods, website assessment, and web analytics software; ability to work collegially in a team-oriented environment; excellent interpersonal, communication, and organization skills; eligibility to work in the United States.


Preferred: Three years professional experience in an academic setting; experience working with library applications and content management systems; working knowledge of web programming languages such as HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript; proficiency with prototyping, graphic design, and multimedia software; creativity, artistry, and flair.

Required Qualifications: Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of three years’ experience in any combination of acquisitions, cataloging, metadata production services, preservation, serials and electronic resources management and licensing. Evidence of leadership in the fields of knowledge access and resource management, including demonstrated effective administrative, management, planning, financial and organizational skills. Responsibilities & Requirements: Under the direction of the Associate Dean for Collections Strategy and Management, the Director of Collections and Resource Management provides leadership, guidance and expertise to the Department. The Director of Collections and Resource Management will be expected to conduct research and scholarship, and participate in faculty governance, committee works and continuing professional development consistent with University standards for promotion and tenure. As a faculty librarian, the successful incumbent will take an active role in liaison, reference and instruction duties. The selected candidate will be responsible for the following:
· Plan, implement, and evaluate operations, establish policies and procedures, and set priorities in acquisitions and cataloging, metadata, preservation, serials, electronic resources, and data gathering and statistics.
· Train, evaluate and supervise technical services staff, and ensure compliance with national and local standards such as MARC, RDA, AACR2r, LCSH, LCCS, OCLC, LC cataloging practices, and other appropriate cataloging and metadata standards.
· Review and evaluate work flows and work assignments, with an eye toward increasing efficiencies, bringing more high-quality content to users more quickly, and building sustainable work flows to handle increasingly heterogeneous digital assets.
· Assess collections and inform decision-making based on data analysis, coordinate and guide the collection activities subject librarians, and develop and implement training programs related to collection management.
· Advise Associate Dean for Collections Strategy and Management in the articulation of user-centered, holistic collections vision to meet current and emerging information needs and new models of collection/content building and delivery.
· Work with SBU Library senior leadership, consortia partners, and library/higher education organizations to identify opportunities for improvement in Libraries' discovery and delivery operations and services.
· Work with Associate Dean for Collections Strategy and Management, liaison librarians and other units in the Libraries to describe and promote collections and collections related activities.
· Work closely with the Dean and Associate Deans to develop and implement University Libraries priorities and provide the infrastructure needed to achieve those priorities. Ensure that collections address the curriculum and research and scholarship opportunities of the University.
· Develop, coordinate and implement bibliographic control policy and practices across the ILS, Discovery and digital repository systems.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head Librarian, the Cataloging and Donations Management Librarian 

Performs copy and original cataloging of print and non-print materials published in German and English, based on RDA, MARC21, and Library of Congress cataloging standards
Manages all aspects of library donations, including checking lists, processing donated items, and maintaining donor correspondence
Provides training in cataloging and other skills to other staff members as needed
Assists with collections development and performs other professional  duties as needed
Proactively participates in library projects to maximize access and improve data quality 
Streamlines cataloging procedures and participates in relevant committees 
Compiles statistics and reports to monitor progress
Provides occasional reference services related to the German-speaking Jewish communities

Digital Svcs Librarian, Metropolitan Coll of NY (NY)


Digital Services Librarian

Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY), a non-profit, regionally accredited college offering associate, bachelor's and master's degrees, and located in Manhattan and in the Bronx, seeks a Digital Services Librarian (DSL). The Librarian will be primarily responsible for maintaining, developing, expanding, promoting and assessing the digital face of the MCNY Library.  The DSL will also be responsible for providing face to face and virtual reference services; conducting information literacy sessions; assisting with collection development and acquisitions; developing and maintaining online learning modules; and representing the library on college and university committees related to technology.   Additionally, the Digital Services Librarian will serve as a primary point person for the library at MCNY’s Bronx Extension Center (BEC).  At the BEC, the Librarian will provide Reference and Instruction services and will be responsible for helping to develop programing and the library’s print collection.  
  
Required qualifications include ALA accredited Master’s degree in Library/Information Science with 5 or more years of experience in an Academic Library; ability to work well in teams; demonstrated experience in addressing usability issues and implementing user-centered design in libraries.  The DSL must demonstrate knowledge of and experience with current and emerging web development technologies as they relate to digital library services, be proficient with Microsoft Office, and have familiarity with HTML, CSS, and databases. Must have experience providing Information Literacy Instruction and Reference Services.  Must be willing to work evening and weekend hours.  Preferred qualifications include experience in higher education experience; experience with OCLC’s Worldshare Management Services; content management systems, e.g., LibGuides, Drupal, Moodle; third-party discovery layers such as Summon, Primo, or EBSCO Discovery Service; integrated library systems, e.g., Sirsi, Koha, Innovative; virtual instruction software such as Captivate, Jing, Camtasia, LibWizard; scripting languages such as Javascript or PHP.

Responsibilities

Work with 54 autonomous member libraries to help them develop and enhance their services to several state-specified target populations including senior citizens, ethnic and language minorities, persons with disabilities, the educationally disadvantaged, the unemployed and underemployed, and individuals residing in institutions.

Inform  ♦  Encourage  ♦  Advise  ♦  Facilitate  ♦  Coordinate

Encourage member library staff to reflect the changing demographics and increasing diversity of their communities in their collections and services.
Develop and maintain relationships with agencies serving and advocating for the target populations.  Promote collaboration and partnerships.
Keep current with public library outreach issues, opportunities, best practices and trends.
Develop and offer continuing education opportunities for member library staff on traditional outreach topics as well as community engagement topics such as marketing/PR, customer service, readers advisory, and communication.
Serve individuals at the Nassau County Correctional Facility by conducting programs, including a regular book club, and coordinating the acquisition of library materials. Maintain strong relationships with staff at the facility.
Represent Nassau libraries and coordinate member library involvement at community events. 
Other duties as assigned.

M.L.S. from an ALA accredited library school and at least 3 years of relevant experience.
