Now Hiring: Adjunct Reference Librarian
The Graduate Center Library seeks an Adjunct Reference Librarian to work about 20 hours per week in the Fall 2016 semester (ending January 27, 2017), shifting to about 12 hours per week for the Spring 2017 semester. Hours are flexible based on availability and need but will overlap with the reference desk schedule (Mon – Thu 11am – 8pm and Fri 11am – 6pm). The Spring 2017 semester runs from January 30, 2017 to May 30, 2017. Each semester’s hours are capped at 225 hours.
Responsibilities include reference work with a particular focus on QuestionPoint chat reference service. A variety of projects related to QuestionPoint reference may be assigned, such as data collection, statistics, and librarian training. Additional projects may include writing and editing content for the library website/blog, teaching graduate-level research workshops, creating and improving internal documentation, and creating instructional materials.
QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA-accredited program is required, as are a strong public-service orientation and expertise with a wide range of library databases. Also required are attention to detail, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to learn quickly, work independently, meet deadlines, and apply critical thinking skills to library tools, systems, and problems. Previous reference experience and experience with QuestionPoint chat service, along with a familiarity with CUNY are strongly preferred. Comfort with a wide range of technologies including LibGuides, QuestionPoint, WordPress, and Excel is desired.
