Position: Part-Time, Per Diem Instructional / Reference Librarian
Reporting to the Director of the Library, the Reference and Instruction Librarian provides instruction, reference and research services to students, faculty, staff and other users of the James E. Tobin Library.
The James E. Tobin library seeks applicants for part-time Reference and Instructional librarians. There are opportunities for librarians to be scheduled for daytime, evening and weekend hours. Candidates should be proficient in research strategies and resources, as well as emerging technologies such as virtual reference, (Chat.) Candidates should have a familiarity with new information technologies as they apply to instruction and communication (LibGuides, Camtasia,) or other instructional software. Successful applicants will have the ability to customize instructional sessions for a variety of disciplines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide reference, instructional, and research services to student, faculty and all other users of the Tobin Library.
- Develop customized classroom instruction sessions upon request.
- Teach research and search strategies to students in small groups and / or one-on-one sessions.
- Prepare online tutorials utilizing LibGuides.
- Other library related duties as assigned.
- Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in library/information science from an American Library Association accredited school.
- Two years experience in an academic library and prior experience teaching instructional sessions.
- Strong knowledge of academic databases.
- Excellent organizational skills and strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Prior experience with developing LibGuides.
- Prior experience with medical databases such as CINAHL, Cochrane, Ovid is highly desirable.
- Second master’s degree a plus.
