FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Kurt R. Schmeller Library at Queensborough Community College invites applications for the position of Information Literacy Coordinator at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor. The candidate will provide information literacy instruction and serve as liaison to one or more academic departments and share responsibility for committee and department assignments, performing administrative, supervisory, and other functions as may be assigned.

Responsibilities include:

Manage, develop, and assess the information literacy instruction program in alignment with the library strategic plan and college mission

Coordinate day-to-day operations of the information literacy program

Collaborate with faculty and other librarians to lead the development and maintenance of information literacy at different student levels and needs

Keep up with trends in instructional technologies and head initiatives to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into information literacy instruction

Collaborate with university colleagues as required to initiate and maintain projects that promote information literacy and research education on campus

Maintain Information Literacy Modules of the First Year Experience (FYE) in an online environment

Design shared instructional materials in various formats (e.g. digital, interactive, etc.), including, but not limited to LibGuides, online tutorials, and training materials

Conduct information literacy instruction sessions, in all teaching modalities

Develop and maintain best practices, policies, and procedures related to information literacy instruction within the library

Act as subject liaison between the library and designated departments

Work at the reference desk and other duties as assigned

Be flexible to work evenings, early mornings, and/or weekends. Some evening or weekend shifts may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirement for the rank of instructor (non-tenure track) is a Master of Library Science (MLS) or a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or an equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited programand/or active progress toward a Doctorate, or equivalent.

The requirement for the rank of assistant professor (tenure-track) is an MLS or an MLIS or an equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program and a second master’s degree

Preferred Qualifications :

Excellent interpersonal and leadership qualities, a commitment to collaboration and mutual respect, and the ability to work efficiently and effectively on shared projects and committees in our multicultural library and college/university community. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate excellence with engaged learning instruction tailored to the needs of student populations in a community college.

  • Experience with reference and Information literacy teaching experience in academic libraries

  • Demonstrated leadership of library information literacy instructional programs

  • Demonstrated proficiencies in library assessment, especially with information literacy instruction

  • Strong knowledge and experience in implementing the ACRL Framework in information literacy instruction

  • Demonstrated experience in using instructional technologies such as AI tools for information literacy

  • Demonstrated experience of designing instruction and materials using critical pedagogy

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to research

  • Experience working with diverse populations

COMPENSATION

Instructor: $79,061 - $81,515. Assistant Professor: $84,741 - $94,909

Library faculty members have an eleven-month calendar with 40 vacation days. Faculty on the Assistant Professor tenure track receives reassigned time to pursue scholarship. For faculty in Assistant Professor rank, continued scholarly and service activities are required for tenure and promotion.

P/T - Open Ed'l Rscs Librarian, CUNY-Grad Ctr (NY)

The Mina Rees Library, CUNY Graduate Center seeks an Adjunct Open Educational Resources (OER) Librarian to assist with the Open Knowledge Fellowship, an intensive training program for doctoral students who teach at CUNY. This program takes place in person at the Graduate Center in January 2026 and in a Spring cohort (dates TBD). This is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking an opportunity to apply their teaching and assessment skills in the context of Open Educational Resources.

The Adjunct OER Librarian will attend all 2026 Fellowship sessions in person, support the program’s development, planning, and assessment process, and additionally offer guidance to student Fellows who are involved in the process of converting a course to ZTC (Zero Textbook Cost) materials.

Responsibilities include:

  • Meeting with individual students to review their selections of OER materials
  • Editing and posting student blog posts on WordPress-based platform
  • Creating and distributing outreach materials
  • Reviewing the existing program materials and supplementing with new/relevant content
  • Assisting in gathering required program data and statistics

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in Library and Information Science, or current enrollment in a Library and Information Science program with at least 12 credits completed
  • Demonstrated interest in academic librarianship
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enjoys the challenge of communicating complex topics to new learners
  • Demonstrated interest in teaching and creating educational materials

Compensation: Up to 15 hours per week at a CUNY Non-teaching Adjunct hourly rate ($51-$58/hour) commensurate with education and experience

Job Description:

Greenley Library at Farmingdale State College seeks a highly motivated enthusiastic Librarian who demonstrates a dedication to student success.

Hired at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian, this is a 12 month, full-time, tenure track faculty position, reporting to the Library Director. The Librarian in this role will have responsibilities in the following areas:

Reference and Instruction

  • Provide comprehensive, one-on-one in-person reference desk consultations to members of the college community.
  • Serve as the primary Library liaison for all fully-remote students. This includes holding online synchronous reference sessions upon request and providing outreach to online students on an ongoing basis.
  • Teach customized Information Literacy sessions in a variety of disciplines.  Most sessions meet for 1 class period and are held in-person, but synchronous or asynchronous sessions may be requested by faculty.
  • Participate in the creation of library research guides in the form of websites, videos, or other media.

Archival Management

  • Manage and promote the Farmingdale State College Archives, a collection spanning 100+ years of the College's historical materials. 
  • Archival responsibilities will include selection, arrangement and description, rehousing, digitization, support for Archives researchers, and outreach to the campus and community promoting the use of the Archives.
  • Regularly assess Archival practices and use of the Archives.

Other

  • Participate and take leadership roles in campus, local, SUNY-wide, and national committees or professional organizations.
  • Demonstrate commitment to scholarship in accordance with campus guidelines.

This position may require occasional nights and weekends to meet operational requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in an academic library environment, including knowledge of reference sources and academic database searching.
  • Experience in archival work and management, or significant course work or training in archival work and management.  
  • Bilingual, Spanish preferred.
  • Additional Master's degree or equivalent.

This is a full-time, 12-month UUP faculty position.

Assistant Librarian

To support the stewardship of a collection of over 90 thousand items across three physical sites, the Whitney Museum’s Frances Mulhall Achilles Library seeks a part-time Assistant Librarian. The Assistant Librarian will support the Head Librarian and other department staff in all aspects of Library and Library Special Collections development, cataloging, circulation, access, organization, and storage.    

Expected projects/work assignments: 

  • Assist staff with library collection development. 
  • Create original and copy cataloging in MARC for library materials, with particular attention to our ongoing work in reparative and equitable metadata. 
  • Assist with reference and circulation requests from staff and external researchers, including paging and shelving. 
  • Process library materials for secure storge, including items requiring custom preservation housings. 

Skills and qualifications required (including technology skills):  

  • MLIS or related degree, with experience in art sources and services. 
  • Experience with library cataloging (MARC, RDA, LCSH, LC classification). 
  • Ability to work independently with attention to detail.  
  • Experience with an ILS.  
  • Experience with spreadsheet software, including Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets. 
  • Ability to lift cartons up to 30lbs is helpful.

The NYAM Historical Medical Library began in January 1847 with the founding of the Academy. It opened its collections to the general public in 1878. By the middle of the 20th century, it had grown to be one of the largest independent medical libraries in the country. Building on its extensive historical collections, in the early 21st century, the Library transitioned from a modern health sciences library to a historical medical library. Strong candidates for this position will have a clear and forward vision of the future of the historical medical library in an independent institutional research environment, a background in the history of health sciences, and experience in library/archival administration. Candidates should have extensive management experience in a library or cultural heritage environment, including with strategic planning and implementation.

Position Summary/Overview:

NYAM seeks a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative leader as the Director of the Library, charged with reimagining its goals and with building greater engagement of its rich holdings within NYAM and beyond. Reporting to the NYAM President and serving on the NYAM leadership team, the Director plays a crucial role in establishing the Library as a pillar of engagement and building the Library of the future. The Director will help implement vision and strategic priorities in support of institutional alignment, using innovative organizational principles and technological advances to increase access and disseminate knowledge that advances population health.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·                     Strategic Leadership & Planning: Develop and enact a comprehensive plan for how the Library will best serve NYAM research staff, Fellows, and wider community needs. Innovate for the future of evidence-based health policy and knowledge sharing. Align resources and talent in the Library to partner effectively across NYAM and with peer institutions, integrating library services and collections into organizational mission and goals. Implement strategies to stand at the forefront of technological innovations.

·                     Team & Resource Management: Work closely with long-serving staff, utilize their expertise, promote a culture of collaboration, and enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of the library’s team, recommend and build an effective staffing structure in a resource-limited environment. Manage Library’s budgets, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources. Assist development and fundraising efforts, working to increase external sources of funding, including grants, philanthropy, and other venues.

·                     Policy and Collections: The Director will set priorities for collections in support of NYAM’s evolving research and educational missions. The Director will allocate funding sources, set priorities, review technical infrastructure and workflows in support of increased digitization, exhibition, and dissemination of special collections.

·                     Promotion and Communication: Conduct outreach and expand collaborations with peer institutions and other cultural heritage entities, encouraging innovative uses of its collections, providing historical context for research projects, and actively engaging with NYAM’s communities. Enhance visibility of Library activities and initiatives, ensuring synergetic collaboration and optimal use by NYAM researchers, Fellows, scholars, and wider communities.

·                     Digitization and Technology: Ensure the digital collections, exhibits, preservation and catalog efforts are all digital and future forward.

Qualifications:

·                     8+ years of progressive experience in a library or cultural heritage environment, including experience with strategic planning and implementation.

  • Master’s degree minimum in library or information science or other relevant discipline.
  • Additional advanced degree in a relevant discipline like history or sociology, preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in and current use of digital technologies to enhance and feature library collections.
  • Proven ability to inspire, build trust, and manage organizational change and to foster innovation and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, analytical skills, creative and innovative problem-solving skills, and a strong commitment to service excellence.
  • Excellent skills in building and sustaining an effective communication strategy and interpersonal relations.
  • Established ability to cultivate, maintain, and steward relationships across a range of professional communities and levels.

This position is based in New York City. Staff work in a hybrid environment with some flexibility, pending the needs of the department.
