Acquisitions Librarian


Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Collections & Access Services (AC), the Acquisition Librarian is responsible for overseeing acquisitions/serials and cataloging units. The Librarian will lead a staff consisting of an administrator and several staff members.

Duties & Responsibilities
Acquisitions

  • Supervises daily operations of the acquisitions/serials unit.  
  • Develops new workflows, procedures and initiatives and trains staff members in them.
  • Oversees the order and receipt of material in all formats. Oversees invoicing and claiming.
  • Works closely with University procurement systems to ensure accurate and timely payment of Library invoices. Supervises library staff in tracking or confirming vendor payments when appropriate.
  • Ensures vendor information is properly maintained and up to date in the University Procurement system in order to maintain vendor relationships.
  • Resolves issues relating to acquisitions and inventory management including but not limited to issues with orders, receipts, billing, processing, claims, records, cancelled orders, and system functionalities.


Inventory Maintenance

  • Oversees record maintenance for new or cancelled materials within the library’s ILS, in addition to other needed maintenance.
  • Ensures the communication of new resources to library staff as needed to ensure the addition of vendor supplied catalog records into the ILS and the addition of the resource onto the ez-proxy server.  
  • Ensures the preservation of department records, including vendor contracts and usage statistics for e-resources.
  • Leads periodic collection evaluation and weeding projects.
  • Oversees the processing and management of physical collections (e.g., processing, weeding, binding).


Collection Development

  • Coordinates implementation of collection development decisions by directing communication with vendors regarding purchases, renewals, receipt of invoices, and cancelled subscriptions.
  • Directs the gathering of and presentation of print standing order lists and usage statistics to subject selectors.
  • Under direction of the AC, negotiates pricing and license terms for e-resources.
  • Monitors expenditures, encumbrances and regularly compiles reports detailing acquisition spending by category.
  • Oversees the coordination with content selectors so that the Library’s acquisitions conform with budgetary projections.
  • Oversees the processing of gifts of library materials, including deciding whether to accept, preparing a donor agreement (if needed), overseeing the item’s processing and preparing an acknowledgement of gift.


Required Qualifications

  • M.L.S. or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of academic experience, academic law library experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of integrated library systems as used by acquisitions and collection management personnel, including statistical and fund maintenance.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with I-Buy and/or Jaggaer procurement systems


Classification
This is a non-tenure track faculty (Assistant Librarian of Practice) position, and after the first year is eligible for multi-year contracts.

Salary
Highly competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
