Scope:


Information Center


The information center is a centralized department managing all research subscriptions and performing research requests supporting all employees within the firm on a global level. Librarians perform and deliver custom research assignment results to internal clients, provide training on information services as needed, evaluate new resources and advise internal business units on resource options as appropriate.


Responsibilities:

  • Perform customized, in-depth information research on a variety of complex subjects to support the information needs of the financial, corporate and other staff of the firm.
  • Format, package and deliver results of research projects to clients in an appropriate format.
  • Research and evaluate new and renewing information services and sources.
  • Provide training on information sources as needed for financial staff.
  • Remote position with occasional required travel to an office.

Basic Qualifications:

  • MLS or MLIS degree from an accredited graduate program

Acquisitions Librarian


Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Collections & Access Services (AC), the Acquisition Librarian is responsible for overseeing acquisitions/serials and cataloging units. The Librarian will lead a staff consisting of an administrator and several staff members.

Duties & Responsibilities
Acquisitions

  • Supervises daily operations of the acquisitions/serials unit.  
  • Develops new workflows, procedures and initiatives and trains staff members in them.
  • Oversees the order and receipt of material in all formats. Oversees invoicing and claiming.
  • Works closely with University procurement systems to ensure accurate and timely payment of Library invoices. Supervises library staff in tracking or confirming vendor payments when appropriate.
  • Ensures vendor information is properly maintained and up to date in the University Procurement system in order to maintain vendor relationships.
  • Resolves issues relating to acquisitions and inventory management including but not limited to issues with orders, receipts, billing, processing, claims, records, cancelled orders, and system functionalities.


Inventory Maintenance

  • Oversees record maintenance for new or cancelled materials within the library’s ILS, in addition to other needed maintenance.
  • Ensures the communication of new resources to library staff as needed to ensure the addition of vendor supplied catalog records into the ILS and the addition of the resource onto the ez-proxy server.  
  • Ensures the preservation of department records, including vendor contracts and usage statistics for e-resources.
  • Leads periodic collection evaluation and weeding projects.
  • Oversees the processing and management of physical collections (e.g., processing, weeding, binding).


Collection Development

  • Coordinates implementation of collection development decisions by directing communication with vendors regarding purchases, renewals, receipt of invoices, and cancelled subscriptions.
  • Directs the gathering of and presentation of print standing order lists and usage statistics to subject selectors.
  • Under direction of the AC, negotiates pricing and license terms for e-resources.
  • Monitors expenditures, encumbrances and regularly compiles reports detailing acquisition spending by category.
  • Oversees the coordination with content selectors so that the Library’s acquisitions conform with budgetary projections.
  • Oversees the processing of gifts of library materials, including deciding whether to accept, preparing a donor agreement (if needed), overseeing the item’s processing and preparing an acknowledgement of gift.


Required Qualifications

  • M.L.S. or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of academic experience, academic law library experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of integrated library systems as used by acquisitions and collection management personnel, including statistical and fund maintenance.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with I-Buy and/or Jaggaer procurement systems


Classification
This is a non-tenure track faculty (Assistant Librarian of Practice) position, and after the first year is eligible for multi-year contracts.

The LaGuardia and Wagner Archives seeks to hire one part-time Assistant Archivist (College Assistant) to perform the following duties under the supervision of the Archivist:

-Arrange, describe, and rehouse archival materials in a variety of formats. (This will include completing the processing of a prominent Women Journalist’s Papers.)

-Perform preservation work as needed.

-Assist with the accessioning of archival materials, including selecting, boxing, and moving records.

    Position Overview:  The New York School of Interior Design, an accredited, independent institution of higher education devoted entirely to the discipline of interior design and its related professions, seeks an individual to serve as an Assistant Librarian.   Reporting to the Director of the Library, the Assistant Librarian supports the day-to day operations of the Library’s public services and the two materials libraries. S/he is an integral part of the Library’s public services team for providing instructional, reference, and circulating services to library users. During the closing shifts and in the absence of the Senior Librarian, s/he manages the Library’s circulation and reference desk and supervises student workers. The Assistant Librarian performs a variety of system maintenance tasks, such as updating the Library’s website and online subject guides and maintaining other electronic tools and platforms pertaining to public services. S/he may need to perform tasks and projects related to the NYSID Archives & Special Collections.

     

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Assist the Librarian with the operations of circulation and reference services and delivering library instruction sessions to NYSID students, faculty and staff; answer reference queries and help patrons locate items and resources in the library and archives, and through online databases.
    • Manage the day-to-day public services operations and supervise student workers during closing shifts and in the absence of the Senior Librarian.

Reporting to the Director of the Library and Archives, the Librarian/Senior Librarian manages the day-to day operations of the Library’s public and technical services activities, including the two materials libraries and supervision of all library student workers for coverage of the Library’s circulation and reference desk.  Working with the Director of the Library and Archives, the Librarian/Senior Librarian develops the Library’s collection development policy, maintains the library collections, and process acquisitions and donations following established guidelines and criteria. The Librarian/Senior Librarian also assists the Director with selection and evaluation of electronic resources and negotiation of licenses with vendors. The Librarian/Senior Librarian plays a leadership role in adopting and implementing new and creative technologies and workflow in the above-mentioned areas. This person also coordinates with NYU’s Knowledge Access & Resource Management Services (KARMS) for routine cataloging and database maintenance tasks. The Librarian/Senior Librarian will serve as the backup of the Director when s/he is absent.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the day-to-day operations of the Library’s circulation desk, including scheduling desk coverage, supervision and training of all student workers, managing the Reserves collection, and providing circulation and reference services when needed.
  2. Working with other librarians, assess and determine the levels of library services, formulate and document library procedures and policies pertaining to its services, recommend and implement new service models if necessary.
  3. Assume the leadership role in introducing and implementing new library/information technologies pertaining to public and instructional services, including but not limited to WordPress (on which the library website is built), LibGuides, Omeka, and other social media channels.

  8. Maintain the Library’s collections, including performing inventory and implementing yearly shelf-read workflow, weeding, tracing lost books, and recommending books for replacement. 
  9. Assess preservation needs for the collection, including training student workers to perform simple book repairs or coordinating with vendors for professional bindery or preservation services.
  10. Working with Facilities, develop and maintain the Library’s written disaster plan, providing training in disaster prevention and preparedness for library staff and student workers.
  11. Coordinate with NYU’s Knowledge Access & Resource Management Services (KARMS) to perform routine cataloging and database maintenance tasks, including serials subscription, holdings and item record maintenance. Manage serials check-in, claims and annual renewals.
  12. Maintain and collect statistics relevant to the above-mentioned areas.
  13. Serve as the backup of the Director when s/he is absent.
  14. Other duties, projects and activities as may become necessary.

 

Qualifications:

MLS from an ALA-accredited institution.  Bachelors in art history, fine arts, design or architecture preferred.  At least 1-2 years’ experience in an academic or research library environment with specialization in circulation, reference, or library instruction services. (Candidates with more than 2 years’ work experience may be considered at the Senior Librarian level.)  Proven experience in managing part-time staff or student workers.  Former experience in formulating and documentation library procedures and policies. The Ursula C. Schwerin Library at New York City College of Technology, CUNY (City Tech) seeks to hire a Reference and Instruction Librarian for in-person part-time work during the Fall 2022 semester. City Tech is a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn, offering associate and baccalaureate degrees in technology and health related degree programs, other career-oriented degrees and liberal arts transfer degrees in its Schools of Arts and Sciences, Technology and Design, and Professional Studies. The adjunct reference and instruction librarian will be responsible for providing high quality reference service in person and online, for teaching in-person library instruction classes, and for contributing to reference- and instruction-related projects.

 

Applicants should have experience working in an academic library, experience providing in-person and online library reference, experience with library instruction, the ability to work as part of a team of diverse individuals, and excellent communication skills.

 The primary function of this position is to provide research support for attorneys, paralegals and members of support departments, both in support of our clients and firm administrative functions. This includes locating information and documents from publicly available sources, internal information sources and subscription services at the request of attorneys or staff. • Manages catalog operations, authority work, and quality control.
• Performs original and complex copy cataloging for print and non-print materials using local and national standards including MARC, other metadata schema, and Library of Congress classification. Materials primarily in English, German, and other Romance languages.

Associate Director for Research and Scholarship

 
The Associate Director of Research & Scholarship (ARS) provides leadership for the provision of reference, research, scholarship, interlibrary loan and document delivery services. This supervisory role oversees librarians, administrators and paraprofessionals. As a member of the library’s senior management team, the ARS participates in strategic and tactical decision making for the library as a whole.


Duties & Responsibilities
• Manages, coordinates and oversees the provision of the Law Library’s reference/research, interlibrary loan, and document delivery services.
• Assesses the extent to which services are meeting the needs of patrons and programs.
• Compiles department statistics and prepares reports.
• Collaborates with others in the curation of a research-level collection. Assigns collection development responsibilities among librarians and co-chairs the Collection Development Committee.
• Provides training and onboarding of staff, including librarians, administrators, and paraprofessionals. The ARS will act as the coordinator, coach, and mentor for a team of skilled reference librarians and staff.
• Stays abreast of new developments in subject area, including innovative ways to leverage new technologies to improve workflows and provide service.
• Serves as a library liaison to constituents throughout the Law School, including faculty, students, centers and clinics.
• Manages daily operations of the reference including tasks such as preparing reference desk schedules, and designating liaison assignments, and answering a range of questions relating to interlibrary loan.
• Keeps current with technology and trends in library management and services.
• Oversees outreach/marketing of library services and resources.
• Oversees the hiring and managing of a small pool of library-based RAs.


Required Qualifications

• M.L.S. (or equivalent) and J.D.
• Five or more years of progressive responsibility as a research librarian in an academic law library.
• Ability to think strategically about research services, programs, and collections as the needs of the Law School community evolve.
• Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, and act as a team builder and mentor.
• Expert knowledge of legal bibliography and research methods.

Associate Director for Collections & Access Services


This Associate Director of Collections & Access Services (AC) provides leadership and strategic vision for the planning and management of NYU Law Library’s renowned collections, ensuring efficiency in workflows and maximum impact for patrons. The AC oversees collection development, the information budget, acquisitions, cataloging, and collection services. Collaborates with colleagues to select technology tools for the department and works closely with the Director to prepare financial reports and statistical reports. This supervisory role oversees librarians, administrators and paraprofessionals. As a member of the library’s senior management team, the AC participates in tactical decision-making for the library as a whole.


Duties & Responsibilities


Collection Development & Budgeting
• Provides strategic vision for library collections to align with Law School’s strategic goals and ensures Library’s collections are of an appropriate scope and caliber to support the current and future needs of the Law School community.
• Provides leadership for collection development. As such, updates the library’s collection development policy; co-chairs the Collection Development Committee (CDC). Reviews usage statistics and other metrics. Implements strategies to ensure maximum impact of resources.
• Maintains primary responsibility for the collection budget. Sets fund allocations in collaboration with CDC, prepares reports, determines appropriate use of restricted funds, ensures that encumbrances and expenditures adhere to allocations and otherwise monitors information budget.
• Maintains in-depth knowledge of the budget for accurate vendor adjustments.
• Spearheads and oversees the Library’s interactions with NYU’s procurement system to ensure AP compliance.
• Cultivates vendor relationships to assist the ordering and collection process.
• Negotiates or oversees the negotiation of cost and license terms.
• Participates and serves as a primary contact for consortium relating to collection initiatives.


Acquisitions, Cataloging, E-Resource Management and Collection Services

• Responsible for the administration of those units, including hiring and staff development.
• Sets department goals and policies and streamlines workflows across units.
• Monitors the physical arrangement and organization of the library collection. Plans and coordinates the moving of collections as needed, including to off-site storage.


Technology
• Works collaboratively with the library’s technology team to ensure library infrastructure (including ILS) promotes discovery and accessibility of collection.
• Leads the investigation and implementation of new pertinent technologies and operational tools, in collaboration with members of the library’s technology team.


Faculty Library & Rare Book Room
• Develops, in consultation with other library management and with the input of faculty, a long-term plan for NYU’s faculty library and the rare book room.


Required Qualifications

• J.D. from an A.B.A. accredited law school (or equivalent degree from a non-U.S. law school
• M.L.S. or equivalent.
• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience, including supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of the assessment, negotiation, selection, licensing and acquisition of library content in all formats.
• Experience with budget planning, reporting, and effective stewardship of budget allocation.


Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in academic law library’s technical services department

Digital Asset Manager, Alvin Ailey (NY)

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, one of the world's premier dance institutions, is seeking a motivated, creative self-starter to lead oversight and management of our extensive digital asset collection in a digital asset management (DAM) system.  Reporting to the General Counsel’s Office which oversees the Archive Department, this position will work directly with the Archivist. The position’s work will also be coordinated with the External Affairs department and this position will steward the organization of Ailey’s digital assets so that they are available for use internally as well as by a variety of external partners.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the ongoing administration and maintenance of a Digital Asset Management (DAM) system to support organizational projects:
    • Prepare and ingest photos, videos, and documents
    • Manage asset metadata
    • Develop and refine digital asset taxonomy and controlled vocabularies
  • Work across the organization to manage the digital asset lifecycle from creation to marketing, licensing, distribution, production, and archiving.
  • Assist Production and External Affairs departments in uploading, organizing, and tagging daily content to DAM.
  • Assess backlog of legacy digital and physical assets and formulate a plan to move them into the DAM.
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of licensing and legal issues around digital asset use and intellectual property, and develop solutions that serve business, creative, and legal requirements.
  • Conduct DAM user training, create system documentation, and provide technical support to Ailey staff.


Skills/Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with managing digital assets and establishing metadata standards in a cloud-based DAM system.
  • Best practice knowledge that can be applied to develop metadata schemas, controlled vocabularies, taxonomies, file and folder naming conventions and structures.
  • Fanatical about creating order from disorder.
  • Outstanding eye for detail.
  • Experience with Final Cut Pro or similar software, specifically basic video editing and format conversion.
  • Subject matter expertise in dance preferred.


Experience/Education

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a digital asset management role
  • MLIS or equivalent degree

St. Joseph’s University invites applications for a part-time reference and instruction librarian for
the McEntegart Library on the Brooklyn Campus, located in the historic neighborhood of Clinton
Hill. Instructional services responsibilities include teaching information literacy skills to
undergraduate students enrolled in freshman seminars, writing courses, and core curriculum
offerings. Other routine duties include staffing the reference desk, providing remote reference
services, updating subject guides, collection management and assigned projects in keeping with
the activities of an academic library. 
 
The regular (academic semester) weekly schedule is Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am –
2:00 pm and two Saturdays per month. There will be a reduced schedule during the summer
and intersessions. Successful candidates will possess excellent communication skills and
adhere to scheduled hours by punctual, regular attendance. Essential to employment is
accurate adherence to library and college rules, policies, and procedures, including maintaining
strict confidentiality of user records. A courteous, tactful, professional demeanor should

REQUIRED:
