KM Reference Librarian, Gibbons PC (NJ)

Gibbons P.C. is seeking a KM Reference Librarian for its Newark, NJ office. The KM Reference Librarian is responsible for performing complex legal and business development research to support the objectives of our clients and the firm. The position requires excellent communication skills, both written and oral, along with the ability to interact well with all levels of law firm personnel.

Job Requirements:
  • Provides both quick reference and in-depth legal, corporate, and public records research services for attorneys, management, and legal staff.
  • Performs business development research and monitors and provides notification regarding client and legal developments.
  • Conducts user orientation sessions, and offers training and support for both electronic and print resources to end users.
  • Searches and tracks dockets.
  • Compiles legislative and regulatory histories.
  • Provides research advice and cost estimates for research projects.
  • Evaluates and recommends both print and online materials for all offices; participates in collection review.
  • Coordinates inter-library loans.
  • Manages passwords.
  • Catalogs, classifies, and indexes resources.
  • Contributes to the knowledge initiatives of the firm.
  • Stays abreast of current developments in the field via membership and participation in library organizations, reading professional literature, monitoring professional listservs, and keeping up with current events.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
Candidate requirements:
  • M.L.S. with 2-3 years relevant legal research experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legal and non-legal research resources in all formats.
  • Expert in searching online research databases including Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg Law, Cheetah, PACER, Courtlink, D&B, and more.
  • Cataloging knowledge and familiarity with EOS software a plus.
  • Good working knowledge of computers and proficiency in MS Word, Outlook and Excel are required.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal as well as verbal and written communication skills in order to work with a diverse group of legal and non-legal professionals.
