F/T - Access Services Librarian, Molloy Coll (NY)


The James E. Tobin Library at Molloy College is seeking an energetic, service-oriented and collaborative professional to serve as its Access Services Librarian. The ideal candidate will be on the front-lines to ensure the highest level of patron services are provided to students, faculty and other members of the Molloy community. The position includes: oversight of access services-related tools and technologies, supervision of patron services staff and functions across multiple shifts, stack management and developing/maintaining policies, procedures and workflows related to the department. As a member of the library’s full-time professional staff, reference, instruction and collection development/liaison duties are also an expectation of the job. The hours are 35 Hours per week. Monday through Friday and while somewhat flexible, but should range between late morning/early afternoon start e.g., 11-7, 12-8, 2-10.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees administrative operations regarding access services, including study spaces, public computers, printers and scanners within the main library and the Information Commons
  • Supervises and oversees library circulation, patron services staff, per diem library assistants and student workers; responsible for training and scheduling
  • Ability to perform all circulation functions, processes notices and reports, as well as resolves complex circulation problems
  • Responsible for developing documentation and maintaining polices, workflows and procedures related to access services
  • Oversees stack maintenance that includes: reshelving, collection shifts, inventory projects and general participation in the weeding process
  • Collection maintenance and access management responsibilities for a small collection of single title e-journals and streaming media, including renewals, activation/deactivation and troubleshooting
  • Collects and monitors statistics on access services-related activities as well as collection area(s) of responsibility for annual report
  • Performs reference shifts as scheduled
  • Provides Information Literacy instruction (either classroom or one-on-one) as assigned
  • Other library-related duties as assigned

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school required
  • A minimum of two years of experience within an academic library setting
  • Demonstrated supervisory and training experience
  • Strong commitment to patron service; ability to work with a diverse patron population
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet deadlines; take initiative to identify and act to resolve problems and lead by example
  • Strong proficiency and trouble-shooting capabilities with personal computers, office applications and peripheral devices
  • Advanced bibliographic searching skills, including extensive knowledge of academic databases, ejournal and ebook platforms
  • Ability to work effectively and creatively in a rapidly changing library and college environment
  • Ability to function both as a team member and a team leader
  • Preferred experience with Voyager ILS, SerialsSolutions, ILLiad, ARES, Springshare products (e.g., LibGuides, LibCal) or equivalent

Your tasks                                          

•             Research on companies and markets in a variety of international industries.

•             In-depth assistance with economic and regulatory requests.

•             Navigating a wide variety of research databases including: Factiva, Bloomberg, Factset, CapitalIQ, Mergermarket, Dealogic, Profound, Thomson, Gartner, IDC, Euromonitor etc.

Job Description:
The Stephen B. Luce Library of SUNY Maritime College announces the position of Ship's Librarian aboard the Training Ship EMPIRE STATE VI during the 2019 Summer Sea Term. The Ship's Librarian serves as the sole information professional and head of the library aboard the ship. The ship's library serves as the repository of information aboard the ship. It contains a collection over 3,000 titles and computer terminals with access to academic electronic resources.

The ship's librarian is expected to:
  • Provide reference service including reader's advisory and other information queries from cadets, crew, and officers
  • Manage the library collection including circulation and cataloging
  • Remain in constant communication with the library ashore
  • Maintain and report daily statistics to the library ashore
  • Provide regular communication and blog updates to be disseminated to the college community
  • Create port guides to be disseminated to crew and students
  • Supervise cadet library assistants
  • Manage the showing of nightly films to the ship community

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
*The Library and Regiment Department will be available to offer guidance as the successful candidate will be required to supply the following documents at the date of appointment*
  • 2 years of professional experience in libraries or related experience
  • US Passport
  • TWIC
  • Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC)
  • Valid Medical Certificate - Note: The Medical Certificate is issued with the original MMC; however it must be renewed every 2-years.
  • DOT/USCG Periodic Drug Testing Documentation
1.) Letter from employer indicating that you have been in a random testing program meeting the criteria of 46 CFR 16.230 for at least 60 days
(from April 28, 2019) during the previous 185 days, and have not failed nor refused to participate in a chemical test for dangerous drugs.

Special Notes:
 The librarian works on a full-time basis as the solo librarian aboard the EMPIRE STATE Training Ship. The FULL Cruise appointment will begin April 28, 2019 and end August 13, 2019.

Part-time Learning Resource Center Evening and Weekend Librarian- Staten Island, NY

Saint Paul’s School of Nursing, an Education Affiliates school, is seeking a part-time Library Resource Center (LRC) Evening and Weekend Librarian  to work up to 28 hours per week between the hours of 4PM-10PM Monday-Friday and 1-5PM on Saturdays.  Schedules may change depending on the needs of the LRC.   The LRC Evening and Weekend Librarian assists the LRC Manager with locating resources, printing documents, and other duties as required.  This is a part-time non-exempt position paying $21.00 per hour.  Please e-mail your resume and cover letter to JudyLee@edaff.com

·         Catalogs new library resources and circulates library materials.
