Metadata and Resource Mgmt Lib, Marist College (NY)

Marist College, in Poughkeepsie, NY, is seeking a Metadata and Resource Management Librarian.


Brief Summary: Marist College’s James A. Cannavino Library seeks a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and collaborative Metadata and Resource Management Librarian. This position is responsible for:
* original and copy cataloging and classification in Alma
* overseeing all copy cataloging activity
* setting local cataloging procedures and policies
* managing the library’s Alma ERM
* maintaining both the Tipasa and ConnectNY interlibrary loan management systems
* collaborating with Information Technology to facilitate data transfer with third party systems vendors


Duties and Responsibilities: Perform original and copy cataloging and authority work in accordance with local and national standards. Manage the Electronic Resource Management System (ERMS). Supervise Cataloging Department staff. Set local cataloging procedure and policy and manage all aspects of the ILS (Integrated Library System) and the Interlibrary Loan System.Manages all function integral to the operation of the Cataloging Department:

* Implementing cataloging policies and procedures in accordance with current
* professional standards.
* Developing priorities for departmental workflow and maintaining the timely
* processing of materials.
* Ensuring the quality of all online bibliographic database entries.
* Participating in the continued development of the online display and storage
* of bibliographic information.
* Compiling relevant statistics and reporting to Library administration on
* departmental operations.


Manages the Electronic Resource Management System:
* Identifying and selecting correct metadata record in the Knowledgebase.
* Registering and activating local holding in metadata record.
* Activating holdings in discovery layers as appropriate.
* Adding contact information and attaching to metadata record.
* Adding and attaching vendor statistics metadata and activating SUSHI
* access.
Manages Interlibrary Loan System:
* Managing system identity and integration with other systems.
* Coordinating systems upgrades.
* Customizing and testing local modifications.
* Troubleshooting software issues.


Represents the Library as cataloging resource person:
* Attending meetings and informing staff of relevant information.
* Collaborating with an Information Technology staff member to generate and
* schedule patron and data feeds to external system partners.
* Adapting changes in system policies and procedures to departmental
* workflow.
* Planning for system upgrades and coordinating efforts to reinstate effective
* service following upgrades.


Supervises the Cataloging Department and staff:
* Participating in the selection of departmental staff.
* Training staff in departmental policies and procedures.
* Training staff in effective use of cataloging resource materials, AACR2,RDA, BIBFRAME and OCLC cataloging procedures.


Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications
* MLS from an ALA-accredited library program
* 3-5 years’ experience, preferably in higher education
* Original cataloging experience using OCLC, MARC, LCSH, and LC classification
* Working knowledge of RDA, BIBFRAME, and other non-MARC metadata standards
* Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and planning skills
* Knowledge of evolving standards and issues with bibliographic metadata and systems inter-relationships


Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with interlibrary loan activities
* Knowledge of Ex Libris Alma
* Knowledge of a discovery system
* Supervisory experience
