Description	The Hofstra University Library is pleased to invite applications for the appointment of a tenure-track Research Data Librarian in the Department of Technical and Digital Library Services. The successful candidate will help develop and implement Library services that support Hofstra researchers with data management, organization, analysis, preservation, and sharing. Assist researchers in complying with sponsor-mandated data management and sharing requirements, working together with the Office for Research and Sponsored Programs and other university units as appropriate. Advise on repository requirements and infrastructure and assist in the implementation and management of repository systems and services. Advocate for the value of responsible data practices and reproducibility, emphasizing considerations of privacy, ethics, attribution, and documentation when working with data. Provide guidance, support, and educational programming to assist researchers in data analysis, visualization, and evaluation techniques, working together with other university units as appropriate. Educate and inform the campus community about data curation and preservation practices and strategies as they relate to scholarly communication endeavors. Conduct research and scholarly activities to meet the Hofstra University Library criteria for promotion and tenure. Serve on University and department committees, task forces, and teams. Qualifications	ALA accredited M.L.S/M.L.I.S. degree is required. Working knowledge of fundamental research data management and curation best practices, publisher and funder public access requirements, and data preservation principles. Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Demonstrated initiative and flexibility, and ability to work both collaboratively and independently. Strong commitment to staying current with emerging trends and developments in data management and related research data services.
Preferred Quals Summary	Additional graduate degree preferred (required for initial appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank). Experience providing research data services. About the role
This position will perform cataloging of the Libraries’ varied holdings and oversee our integrated library system (ILS) and online catalog, Ex Libris Alma/Primo, which is shared among the three institutional members of the New York Art Resources Consortium (NYARC): the Brooklyn Museum, the Frick Collection, and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). 

This position will also uphold internal and public-facing operations and policies for access services, including staffing the circulation desk, answering inquiries, and performing collection maintenance, as well as providing administrative support for the department.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the Libraries’ shared ILS and online catalog, Ex Libris Alma/Primo, in coordination with our NYARC partner institutions
• Catalog a variety of materials with subject matter ranging from ancient history to contemporary art
• Prepare cataloged materials for access, including labeling and shelving
• Under the supervision of the Director of Libraries & Archives, coordinate and uphold access services for the Libraries
• Staff the circulation desk during open hours and appointments, including greeting and monitoring researchers in the reading room, checking materials in and out, and opening and closing duties 
• Communicate with researchers to set up new accounts, schedule appointments, and request materials 
• Pull materials requested for appointments, holds, and check-outs
• Stacks maintenance duties including reshelving, labeling, shifting collections, inventory projects, and integrated pest management (IPM)
• Respond to general inquiries in department email accounts and answer reference questions, including pulling materials and providing scans
• Process book donations received by staff and public
• Perform tasks for image reproduction requests in partnership with the Digital Collections department
• Perform administrative duties for department, including taking minutes at meetings, submitting help tickets, maintaining supplies, tracking invoices, and handling mail

Reporting to the Dean and Chief Librarian, the Head of Access Service will provide strategic direction and lead the staff in the units of Circulation, Reserves, Stacks Maintenance, Technology Loans and ILL.
