DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK: Under supervision of a District Administrative Judge or a Principal Law Librarian, Senior Law Librarians provide professional library services by implementing policies, performing acquisition functions, original cataloging, and classifying materials using electronic systems based on standard library guidelines. Senior Law Librarians coordinate and implement resource sharing and evaluate the various collections under their jurisdiction for accuracy, relevance and completeness, tailor these collections to complement one another and avoid unnecessary duplication, assist in budget preparation and resource allocation. Senior Law Librarians may manage diverse legal research collections and supervise Law Librarians, paraprofessionals and clerical staff. Senior Law Librarians operate, and may manage, a variety of library and research automation systems. They perform legal research, oversee chambers collections, participate in electronic reference and technical consortiums and work on statewide initiatives in cooperation with the Office of Legal Information. They may coordinate operations of geographically separate legal research collections, and perform other related library and administrative duties. 

ASSIGNMENT: Duties include, but are not limited to: providing legal research and reference support to judges, court attorneys, and non-judicial staff; providing online legal reference services to the public via Ask A Law Librarian; reviewing and evaluating legal research materials in all formats to identify items to be added or withdrawn from the collections of the Criminal and Civil Term Justices’ Libraries; cataloging new items in the collections according to Library of Congress classification system and court-specific guidelines, and constantly monitoring effectiveness of collection organization; implementing and monitoring collection development policies, and recommending modifications thereof; operating acquisition system, including bibliographic searching, retrieval, receipt, verification, labeling, and recordkeeping; monitoring changes in cataloging and classification standards and modifying library records to comply; and other related duties.

F/T - Cataloging & Acquisitions Coordinator, Darien Lib (CT)

Full-Time Cataloging and Acquisitions Coordinator

Darien Library seeks a meticulous and collaborative Cataloging and Acquisitions Coordinator to join the Materials Management Department. The ideal candidate is committed to excellence in maintaining accuracy in the Library catalog and physical collections, enjoys detailed, hands-on work, and is able to prioritize overall Library objectives with their own daily projects. They should have the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, friendly environment, and embrace Darien Library’s “Kindness First” motto in both internal and external service.  

Reporting to the Head of Materials Management, the Cataloging and Acquisitions Coordinator works with a small team to manage the ordering, cataloging, and receiving of approximately 20,000 physical items each year. This essential work ensures that all departments—and the public—can effectively access and locate materials through the catalog.

 

General Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains and ensures accuracy of the Library’s catalog and physical collections.
  • Places orders with vendors through the Library’s Integrated Library System (ILS) based on selection by the collection development staff.
  • Manages all Interlibrary Loan (ILL) transactions, including coordination with deliverIT, Connecticut’s statewide delivery system.
  • Maintains and reports Library ILL statistics.
  • Reviews paper and electronic invoices for accuracy and resolves any discrepancies.
  • Imports and updates bibliographic records in the ILS from external sources.
  • Receives and processes new materials; ensures cataloging and physical processing are complete and accurate; resolves order discrepancies as needed.
  • Manages cataloging of newspapers and magazines.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, plus a minimum of five years’ experience in cataloging records. 

     

Skills & Attributes 

  • Functional knowledge of public library organizations and collections. Good working knowledge of principles and procedures of professional library work including methods, practices, and techniques of library cataloging and classification.
  • Proficiency with Integrated Library Systems, including Polaris and Sierra.
  • Experience with Machine Readable Cataloging (MARC) records, Library of Congress Subject Headings, Dewey Decimal Classification, and OCLC Worldshare.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel and Word.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to details.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Commitment to providing excellent internal customer service.

Salary

$58,000 annually for a 37.5-hour workweek, with final compensation commensurate with experience. Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. Under the Chief Librarian and Chairperson, the Administrative Specialist is responsible for supervising Library operations at LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City, Queens. The Administrative Specialist works closely with the staff and faculty of a variety of campus and CUNY offices and programs to provide administrative and fiscal support.

Specifically, the Administrative Specialist is expected to perform the following duties:

  • Assist the Chief Librarian on all matters pertaining to the administration of the Library Department, including staffing and scheduling, fiscal operations and budgeting, data collection and reporting, and facilities and equipment management.

  • Assist the Chief Librarian in the recruitment, onboarding, management and payroll of all Library Department staff and faculty.

  • Assist the Chief Librarian in coordinating and preparing evaluation materials for faculty promotion and tenure reviews.

  • Prepare annual evaluation and promotion materials for staff.

  • Supervise and provide support to part-time staff and CUNY Office Assistants in multiple Library units, including, but not limited to, Access Services, Technical Services, and Media Services.

  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of all financial and administrative activities.

  • Maintain archives, inventories, statistics, and collections of materials or records needed by the Library Department and for reporting to ACRL & IPEDs.

  • Represent the Library Department at campus and university meetings and activities related to administrative and fiscal operations.

  • Participate in campus- or university-wide committees and projects and undertake additional assignments and program activities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.

The Research Foundation for The State University of New York at Stony Brook is seeking a Clinical Informationist.


Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Relevant Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). One year of full-time experience working in a health sciences or academic library environment or providing information services to clinicians.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with reference/research support or collection development within a health sciences setting. Experience providing instruction at the undergraduate, graduate, or clinical level. Familiarity with current trends in the field of health sciences librarianship. Experience in continuing education and emerging technologies. Brief Description of Duties:
Reporting to the Director of the Health Sciences Library, the Clinical Informationist provides research assistance as well as instruction to the faculty, residents, and fellows within Stony Brook Medicine’s Department of Graduate Medical Education (GME). The Clinical Informationist will also engage in outreach and provide research services to clinicians across Stony Brook Medicine’s hospitals, centers, and outpatient care facilities. The Clinical Informationist will be expected to participate in research, scholarship, and professional activities.


  • Reference/Instruction:

    • Develop and deliver instructional sessions on research-related topics, such as literature searching and evidence-based medicine to residents, fellows and clinicians. Create and maintain research guides and asynchronous learning modules. Work collaboratively across the health sciences library to provide general reference/research support.

  • Research Consultation:

    • Provide in-depth research consultations to residents, fellows and clinicians as needed for course-related and independent research activities. Participate in the development of search strategies for systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and meta-analyses. Handle research and data inquiries from Stony Brook Medicine’s research facilities, affiliates, and partners.

  • Outreach:

    • Establish relationships with the various Graduate Medical Education (GME) Program Directors to ensure they are aware of the research services available through the Health Sciences Library. Engage in outreach to Stony Brook Medicine’s outpatient and inpatient care facilities in order to provide research and evidence-based medicine support to clinicians. Support new initiatives and special projects across the organization. Participate in library, campus, and professional committees.
