Request for Proposals: Archival Consultant
Lower East Side Preservation Initiative
The
Lower East Side Preservation Initiative - LESPI - is embarking on a
program to identify, maintain and preserve our archival resources. To
this end, we are seeking to retain, as a consultant, an experienced
archivist who will perform some or all of the following tasks, as our
budget allows:
Scope
of Services: The archival consultant is to survey LESPI’s existing
files and create an archival policy that will ensure the archive’s
longevity and usefulness, considering LESPI’s likely future growth and
LESPI’s current limited budget and resources as an all-volunteer
organization. The consultant will implement the archiving plan,
including organizing all files, scanning documents, entering data, etc.
The project is to include two phases:
PHASE 1 (Priority 1): Perform Scope of Services for LESPI’s digital files.
PHASE 2 (Priority 2): Perform Scope of Services for LESPI’s physical archives.
Currently, LESPI’s archives consist of:
Our
hard copy materials are stored primarily at LESPI headquarters at
President Richard Moses’s apartment on East 16th Street in Manhattan.
Digital files are kept on our Dropbox Pro and Salsa mass email account,
and in the computers of our Treasurer and Secretary. We have social
media postings on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and YouTube,
and digital photographs posted on our Flickr site.
Our publicly available materials consist of digital material posted on our website, social media and Flickr.
Our target completion date for Phase 1 is November 2024.
