Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications For Permanent appointment:
Eligible to transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Individual must have one year of permanent or contingent permanent competitive service as a Senior Librarian or Senior Librarian (Law).

For Provisional appointment:
You must have a master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association AND Two years of full-time post-degree professional librarian experience in a law or government library. This experience must include using New York State and Federal primary and secondary legal resources and legal databases including Westlaw and LexisNexis.

Duties Description Reference
-provide legal and general research, reference, and referral support to Office of the Attorney General (OAG) staff;
-compile state and federal legislative and regulatory histories;
-assist OAG staff in the use of online resources including, but not limited to, Lexis, Westlaw and PACER;
-schedule instruction sessions for OAG staff in the efficient use of legal information resources;
-promote the library's resources and services by creating content for the library's intranet site;
-supervise clerical staff in the circulation, renewal, and retrieval of items borrowed from the library's collection and other sources; supervise activities regarding upkeep and maintenance of library’s print resources;
-perform other functions as requested;

Interlibrary Loan
-provide interlibrary loan services to OAG staff using OCLC WorldShare;
-monitor statistical and evaluative data and develop initiatives to assess and improve interlibrary loan services;
-advise staff of copyright law as applicable to interlibrary loan services;
-maintain interlibrary loan policies and procedures in response to copyright law and OAG needs;

Desired competencies
-Strong oral and written communication skills;
-Familiarity with SirsiDynix Symphony or other ILS systems.

Bronx Community College Library seeks an Instructor, Assistant, or Associate Professor to serve as Access Services Librarian during the Spring 2022 semester. The Librarian supports the college library by providing oversight of Access Services staff and activities, advancing support for student access and success in utilizing BCC library information resources and services. Pursues an active scholarly agenda, performs supervisory duties, and participates in college-and university-wide programs and committees as assigned.

Reporting to the Chief Librarian, the Access Services Librarian joins a team of librarians and staff providing students and faculty with support for access to and use of library information resources and services. Position involves direct oversight of a team of highly motivated and dedicated staff professionals and student employees that is responsible for delivering quality services related to circulation, reserves, inter-/intra-library loan, resources sharing, technology support, and directional assistance. S/he will guide area procedures and policies, personnel oversight including hiring/training/evaluation/professional development, and reporting of metrics. The Access Services Librarian will also participate with fellow Library faculty and staff in providing traditional and virtual reference and research assistance and in the shared collection development activities. Evening and weekend hours required.

Librarians within the City University of New York take active faculty roles, serving on committees and engaging in scholarly research and publication and perform other duties as assigned. Continuous updating of knowledge and skills is required. All appointments are subject to financial availability.

QUALIFICATIONS

All titles require a Master's in Library Science (MLS), Master's in Library Information Studies (MLIS), or closely related discipline from an ALA-accredited institution. Also required is the ability to work with others for the good of the institution.

For appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor, a second graduate degree is required.

(Short Term Contract) Project Manager for Healing Histories Project (HHP)

The Healing Histories Project is made up of healers, medical practitioners, organizers, media makers, cultural and memory workers who believe that all deserve care and support during times of crisis, vulnerability & resistance. We come together to inform and shape a vision for collective care and safety while integrating models of wellness that seek to transform and intervene on medical violence, harms, and abuses rooted in racism and capitalism. We are engaging individuals, communities and institutions to remember these abuses and harms by catalyzing research, action and movement-building strategies. We do this through the creation of popular education tools, workshop curriculum, cultural and political events and more. 

We are a multiracial intergenerational and multi-ability team that centers Black, Indigenous, people of color, people with disabilities and others targeted by eugenecist strategies in our work.

The Healing Histories Project works in solidarity with many health and healing practitioners/workers by holding with dignity and respect the lives and communities they care for and by disrupting abuses of the state.  The release of this COVID-19 Timeline is our first offering. In addition to the COVID timeline, HHP has  been working for 11 years on compiling data related to 500+ years of the Medical Industrial Complex. This data currently exists in an excel spreadsheet.

We are looking for a project manager to help us finalize the healing histories timeline and ready the data for publication. This is a four month contract: January 15 2022 through April 30th 2022 with the option to extend based on the work.

Timeline content finalization:

·        Develop data strategy and workplan to ready the timeline data for publication by March 30, 2022.

·        Either provide copy-editing and/or content-editing skills or be able to identify, contract and supervise editors. 

·        Create and implement a data cleaning and quality assurance process for a small team of students and/or paid staff

·        Create a bibliography of sources cited to be published with the timeline.

·        Support in vetting online platforms to hold data in a searchable timeline. 

·        Work with the Comms consultant on content finalization with the design and readiness of the digital platform. 

·        Problem-solve content or data issues as they arise. 

Work Culture

·        Ability to work independently and follow deadlines as part of a team.

·        Strong time management skills and direct communication.

·        All Team Meetings once to twice a month 

This contract is for 15 hours a week at $75/hour with a start date by January 15, 2021 (Hours may be worked in any format averaging no more than 15 hours a week). This contract is for six months with the option for review and extension based upon the work and funding. This position assumes home-based and/or remote work.

New York University Libraries is seeking a faculty librarian to support the open scholarship, digital publishing, and repository needs of research and teaching across a wide range of social sciences, humanities, and sciences fields at NYU. This individual works in a unit that includes the Scholarly Communications and Information Policy and Digital Scholarship Services departments as part of a team working to grow and sustain a constantly evolving set of services that supports researchers across the full scholarly communication lifecycle, including content creation, preservation, and storage; rights management; and content discovery and dissemination.

The Open Scholarship Librarian plays a key role in developing and implementing a broad-ranging outreach and education program for digital publishing and repository services for NYU. They work in close collaboration with other specialists to promote tools and services in support of Open Access and Open Scholarship, such as the institutional repository, ORCID Identifiers, and Digital Object Identifiers; to identify and document workflow best practices for the curation and management of digital collections and digital publishing projects, including collections such as electronic theses and dissertations; and to instruct researchers in navigating rights and access issues.This person works collaboratively with Liaison and instruction librarians, technologists, metadata architects, preservation specialists, and developers within NYU Libraries to maintain and improve systems for description, storage, discovery, rights management, and access to digital content held within the institutional repository.

The Open Scholarship Librarian participates in library-wide committees, activities, and special projects, especially those involving new methodologies and scholarly communication practices, especially as they relate to open access and open scholarship. They will develop and maintain awareness of scholarly communication initiatives across subject areas, attending professional meetings, workshops and conferences for training and continuing professional development. Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum one graduate degree (master’s level or higher) for consideration. A second graduate degree will be required for tenure.

The PALS ILS Operations Librarian is responsible for the daily management, configuration, and support of the Innovative Interfaces Sierra Integrated Library System (ILS) and various library applications.  The candidate must have a graduate degree (MLS) from an ALA-accredited library school or currently enrolled in an MLS program, having completed one year of library school. POSITION TITLE: PALS ILS OPERATIONS LIBRARIAN
REPORTS TO: ILS SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR


GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Participates in the PALS ILS management team, assists in the daily operations of the ILS System, conducts complex projects related to the activities of the PALS Consortium, analyzes and institutes new system features and modules, trains staff in PALS libraries, and conducts PALS user group meetings. Must be available to work some nights or weekends as needed.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides technical expertise, day-to-day administration, and support of various library applications:
a. ILS (Innovative Interfaces Sierra)
b. INN-Reach system (LI Link)
c. Online Catalogs and associated mobile sites
2. Develops and provides training as assigned to PALS libraries staff.
3. Assists with implementation and training after upgrades or new releases of the ILS software.
4. Provides customer and technical support for library staff through the helpdesk ticketing system.
5. Writes, edits, and revises online documentation as needed.
6. Acts as a liaison between the automation vendor and consortium members.
7. Conducts PALS user group meetings.


OTHER FUNCTIONS:
1. Keeps current with library technologies through professional developments activities.
2. Represents the consortium at professional meetings.
3. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Identification, consultation, selection and assessment of library resources to meet curricular needs
  • Manage library collection budget and monitor expenditures of library materials, preparing periodic financial reports as necessary
  • Assist University Librarian with the overall administration of the Arnold Bernhard Library, including policy development, administrative decision making, assessment and strategic planning, benchmarking and reports preparation

Education Requirements:
