F/T - Adult Ref Lib, Suffern Free Lib (NY)

 FULL-TIME ADULT REFERENCE LIBRARIAN  

   

The Suffern Free Library is seeking a reliable, flexible person with excellent customer service skills to join our Adult Information/Reference Department.  We are a public library located in the village of Suffern in Rockland County, New York and serve a population of 28,600 residents.    

   

HOURS:   

The schedule of 35 hours per week will include at least one evening and rotating weekend hours. The Library is currently open 6 days a week but is planning to expand to 7 days per week in the Fall. 

  

RESPONSIBILITIES:   

Duties include providing reference and reader’s advisory services to adults and  

students at a busy adult reference desk as well as assisting with print collection development and one-on-one computer/database/mobile device help to all patrons. In addition to the above responsibilities, the candidate will work on special projects assigned by the Department Head. 

  

REQUIREMENTS:   

The applicant should be comfortable with all technologies and software used in library operations including, but not limited to Workflows/Symphony, Internet, OverDrive, Hoopla, Microsoft Office Suite and Envisionware. The ability to express ideas clearly and accurately, both orally and in writing; the ability to multi-task, and to interact tactfully and courteously with patrons and staff are also required. The candidate must take part in continuing education opportunities. This position reports directly to the Head of Adult Reference.  

  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:     

Must have an MLIS from an accredited library school. Knowledge of Sirsi-Dynix Symphony Workflows and Spanish language fluency a plus.   

   

COVID-19 CONSIDERATIONS:   

Applicants must be able to follow all of the Library’s COVID-19 health protocols including being able to tolerate a proper face covering for the duration of the work shift when necessary, maintaining social distancing, and maintaining hand hygiene through the use of hand sanitizer and frequent hand washing.  Applicants must also be willing to participate in sanitizing patron and staff workstations through the use of cleaning and sanitizing solutions.

Project Archivist, LILRC (NY)

 

The Long Island Library Resources Councils seeks a project archivist.  The individual will provide archival  processing services to LILRC member historical societies, museums and cultural institutions.  All work is project based and identified through an application submitted by member institutions.  The individual will work under the direction of the LILRC Digitization and Archives Coordinator.   

This is a temporary position to perform work for a 12 month period (January 1, 2021-December 31, 2022), with a possibility for renewal based on funding availability.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Arrange and describe archival materials according to current standards identified in each project.  Projects may include working with documents, images, textiles and objects.

  • Rehousing items in archival quality containers may be required. 

  • Digitization of some materials may be required.


Qualifying Experience and Training:


  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent degree with an archival concentration, archival management certificate, or related subject specialty. 

  • Minimum of two years experience working with the collections of a historical society, museum or other cultural institution preferred.

  • Knowledge of the principles of archival arrangement and description for personal papers and organizational records in many formats including manuscripts, records series, photographs, born digital material, newspapers, books, posters, audio, film, microfilm, objects, and other materials.

  • Knowledge of Dublin Core metadata schema and current archival descriptive practices and principles including Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS).

  • Experience creating finding aids and familiarity with Encoded Archival Description (EAD).

  • Experience using collection management systems, such as ArchivesSpace or PastPerfect Museum Software.

  • High level of proficiency using PC-based applications (Windows, word processing, spreadsheets) and other computer applications (email, Internet, Integrated Library Systems); ability to keep up to date with emerging technologies.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, with strong project management skills, and the ability to use considerable judgment and take initiative.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work independently.

  • Consistency, accuracy and attention to detail while maintaining a high level of productivity.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

The individual must be able to travel to different work sites in Nassau and Suffolk County.  The salary is $55,000/year with excellent benefits.

Hilton C. Buley Library at Southern Connecticut State University is seeking to immediately fill a temporary 1-year appointment at the rank of Assistant Librarian. The Reference & Instruction Generalist Librarian provides reference service in a cooperative centralized reference environment, as well as specialized reference for assigned academic areas.  The librarian may serve as liaison with one or more academic departments, developing library collections in those areas, provides general and subject-specific instruction, creates instructional materials and web pages, and participates in evening and weekend reference rotation. The librarian may also serve on library and university committees. All librarians report directly to the Library Director and work collaboratively as faculty. Required Qualifications

P/T - Resource Sharing & Technology Librarian, LILRC (NY)

The Long Island Library Resources Councils seeks a service-oriented part time resource sharing and technology library to support the scan center and manage medical inter-library loan and document delivery.  This is an 18 hour/week position paid $35/hour.  The schedule is negotiable but would need to be between the hours of 9 AM and 4:30 PM Monday through Friday.  The position reports to the executive director.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Provide tech support for the Regional Scan Center and equipment loan items.

  2. Manage the medical document delivery and inter-library loan program.

  3. Manage the research loan program.

  4. Manage the Medical Information Services Program.

  5. Manage traveling exhibits and equipment loans.

  6. Provides support for events and promotions as needed.

  7. Performs other tasks consistent with level of responsibility. 


Qualifying Experience and Training

  • Masters degree or progress towards a masters degree in library science from an ALA accredited program or its equivalent.

  • Ability to work with and troubleshoot a variety of digitization hardware and software.

Job Description:

The Assistant Librarian position is a 12-month administrative position reporting to the Director of the Library.  The position primarily includes instruction, reference, resource management, collection development, and other public service activities. Duties and Responsibilities

Provide remote and in-person reference services to patrons.
Respond to student inquiries and concerns at library service desks.

Participate in the development and teaching of remote and in-person information literacy sessions.
Participate in print and electronic collection development. Act as a department liaison for up to three academic departments.
Create and update content in LibGuides, RitzDiscovery, and other library systems with a focus on the user experience.
Assist with managing electronic resources, patron data, and fulfillment services in Alma.
Assist with collection maintenance, including maintenance of the College Archives.
Assist with the library budget process if needed.
Regularly work evening and weekend hours. Oversee staff, facilities, and services during evenings and weekends.
Assist in library public relations, including the creation of marketing materials and displays, and represent the library at public functions,
Assist in the recruitment and retention of library staff.
Develop and implement strategies to promote student success through collaboration with faculty and staff across campus.
Participate in department, division, and institutional assessment activities as required.
Serve on college committees and participate in shared governance.

Requirements:

Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program required.

Minimum of 2 years of library experience required, preferably in a higher education setting. 

Familiarity with emerging technologies and strong technology skills required.

Experience working with Alma/Primo VE preferred.

Schedule

When classes are in session, this position will work Sunday to Thursday, including Sundays 1-6pm and two evenings per week until 7:30pm. The hours will vary during the summer sessions and intersessions.
