Reporting to the College’s Provost, the Chief Librarian is responsible for organizing, directing and evaluating library services, information resources, policies, planning, outreach, personnel, budgets, as well as the Library facility and its online presence. This is a tenure-track position.

The Chief Librarian will:

• Serve as the principal advocate for the Library, and its faculty and staff

• Oversee all aspects of Library administration including instruction and reference, public and technical services, collection management and development, institutional archives and special collections, budgeting and staff supervision, facility planning and management

• Mentor and guide untenured and tenured faculty

• Supervise and facilitate continued integration of new and emerging technologies in Library operations, and maintain effective local, regional, and state consortial partnerships

• Establish a strategic vision that aligns the Library’s mission, goals, and objectives with the College’s Strategic Plan

• Serve as Chairperson of the Library Department. Prepare faculty evaluations based on annual goals and carry out Library departmental activities related to faculty promotion and tenure

• Represent the College on the CUNY Council of Chief Librarians which is charged with advancing library services across CUNY

• Represent the Library on College-wide and University committees

• Seek grants to enhance Library funding for systems, resources, programs, and services, and participate in other College fundraising activities

• Demonstrate a record of scholarship

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's in Library Science (MLS), Master's in Library Information Studies (MLIS), or closely related discipline from an ALA-accredited institution, with a second graduate degree required. Also required is the ability to work with others for the good of the institution.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 5 years demonstrated administrative/management experience in an academic library environment.

  • Understanding of and significant experience in addressing the major challenges (including technology) facing academic libraries.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment

Librarian II, Ossining Public Lib (NY)

community? The Ossining Public Library is looking for a community-focused, mission-driven

Librarian II to join our Adult Services Department.

 

The Librarian II reports to the Head of Adult Services and will be responsible for collection

development, patron-centered reference and referrals, and technology and readers’ advisory

services. Will coordinate a variety of adult programs and identify and participate in community

outreach and engagement efforts. Works collaboratively with other departments, library

administration, community groups, and other agencies. Plans and assesses collections,

programs, and services with a focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion. Assists in development

of new services, collections, and programs for adults.

 

Desired experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities:

 

● Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

● A strong desire and ability to plan, build, and evaluate innovative library services

● Strong knowledge of reference services, collection development, library programming,

and inclusive library service for adults

● Ability to effectively communicate with strong verbal, written, and presentation skills; able

to effectively share professional development knowledge with others

● Ability to use and teach current technologies

● Good judgement, resourcefulness, a positive attitude, enthusiasm, and flexibility

● Ability to motivate others and lead teams; may have supervisory responsibilities and/or

● Ability to understand, speak, read, and write Spanish is strongly preferred

 

Salary and benefits: $61,178 - $68,896, excellent benefits package

 

Minimum training and experience: Possession of a Master’s Degree in Library Science from a

library school that is accredited by the American Library Association or recognized by the New

York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices and at least two

(2) years professional library experience subsequent to MLS. Successful candidate must be

reachable on a Westchester County Civil Service Librarian II list of eligibles or otherwise eligible

for appointment. Placement is subject to Westchester County Civil Service approval.

P/T - Reference Librarian, Bryant Library (NY)

The Bryant Library in Roslyn, NY is seeking a Part Time Librarian.

 

REFERENCE SERVICES

Part Time Librarian Position Available

 

PURPOSE: Seeking a dynamic, flexible and experienced librarian to provide the community with the best possible materials, reference, and information services available.

COVERAGE NEEDED: Mondays 9am-2pm; Wednesdays 1pm 6pm; Friday evenings; Weekends as needed. Hours are subject to change.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

●Provide assistance to patrons with reference and reader’s advisory services through print and digital resources.

Provide technology assistance with computers and other digital devices.

●Responsible for scheduled coverage at the Reference Desk.

●Assist with collection development.

●Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

M.L.S. from anA.L.A. accredited school.

Prior adult reference services experience in a public library is preferred.

●Excellent computer and organizational skills as related to libraries is required.

●Electronic database and Internet searching experience is required.

●Knowledge of Innovative Interfaces, Inc. (Sierra), our Integrated Library System is a plus.

Familiarity with Microsoft Wordand Excel is required.

●Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to form effective working relationships with staff and public is necessary.

●Commitment to excellent customer service.

 

Minimum Starting salary: $32.24 per hour. We are a member of the New York State Retirement System. This is not a Civil Service position.
