HBO, NY is seeking an Ontology Engineer to provide primary support for the HBO Metadata Initiative metadata registry implementation. 

The Ontology Engineer will report to the Director, Media Management and Taxonomy within the Media Technology Operations group, and be responsible for the maintenance and expansion of the corporate data model with the goal of company-wide semantic interoperability.  The position will serve as a domain expert within the company, championing data as a strategic business asset and influencing information and digital strategy.  The position will collaborate with Information Technology, Data Analysis, Archival, content management and other business units as required on best practice for capturing, normalizing and distributing information while ensuring that integrated data delivers business value and aligns with HBO’s priorities and technology goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Analyze existing metadata infrastructure, design, maintain and expand corporate data models, domain ontologies, and metadata specifications.
  • Principal in the deployment of enterprise-level information management tools and strategies: exploratory data analysis, profiling, logical and physical data modeling, mapping of legacy systems to internal and external standards, migration and normalization of  metadata to master data layer and local systems for internal management and external distribution 
  • Gather metrics related to metadata including quantity and type of descriptive attributes per asset, keyword relevancy, effectiveness, conversions and ROI.  Apply metrics to establish metadata best practices.
  • Partner with the Manager, Taxonomy position to enable relevant business units and stewards to develop and implement metadata and media management strategy and best practice: standards, naming conventions, mapping specifications, data conversion methodologies, etc.
  • Collaborate with business, application, solution, and technical architects.
  • Monitor relevant standards and participate in internal and external standards and specification development.
Qualifications:

Education/Professional Licenses or Certificates:                                  
  • Advanced degree in Library Science, Data/Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent information management experience).
Technical and/or Specialized Skills:                                                       
  • Experience with Informatica Master Data Management (MDM), Metadata Management, and Data Quality modules, or similar tool(s).
  • Experience in the development of taxonomies, formal ontologies (OWL), thesauri and other types of controlled vocabularies.
  • Experience in logical, physical and dimensional data modeling.
  • Experience in creating and implementing metadata schemas and models.
  • Experience with data management standards, tools and technologies (e.g. XML, XSLT, RDF, etc.)
  • Familiarity with database design, warehousing, ETL, RDBMS, SQL, noSQL, big data, data management vendor solutions, and business intelligence strategies.
