Under the guidance of the Regional Librarian, the Neighborhood Library Supervisor is responsible for administrative leadership in supervising all aspects of library services at a branch. He/She/They is responsible for developing and maintaining work standards that emphasize customer service, effective communication, and ethical behavior. He/She/They will set goals and priorities, develop and monitor reports, administer projects and evaluate services. He/She/They will serve as the primary branch point person for communicating with Neighborhood Services, other BPL departments and outside agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively to ensure continuity in service to the public
  • First rater for LIS, LCS,  and custodians. Second rater for line librarians and office aides
  • Resolve patron complaints and inquiries & makes decisions on waiving fines and fees
  • Responsible for branch staffing needs; conduct interviews & make recommendations for hire
  • Oversee the development of new and existing branch staff through training and coaching
  • Provide direct public service at all service points & the delivery of relevant programs
  • Work collaboratively with on-site custodial and safety staff; manage safety of the branch
  • Develop an annual branch work plan which includes goals, objectives, measurable outcomes; schedule on-going staff meetings to promote professionalism and teamwork
  • Monitor daily and monthly reports (branch budgets, time and leave, circulation, programming statistics, holds, status g, missing & lost, c-fly, long in transit, etc.) and petty cash
  • Responsible for collection maintenance and weeding
  • Identify emerging trends and new user groups
  • Expected to take a share of all shifts, including mornings, late nights, and Saturdays
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • M.L.S. from an ALA accredited library school & Public librarian’s professional certificate issued by the State of New York, required
  • A minimum of three years demonstrated supervisory & management experience
  • Minimum of three year experience as a librarian in a public library setting
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, identify and assess problems and decisively implement appropriate solutions

JOB DESCRIPTION: Full-time vacancy available for an energetic, team-oriented Librarian with a strong public service commitment at the Pearl River Public Library in Rockland County, NY. Lead exploration, identification, implementation, and staff training of new and emerging technologies as aligned with the Library’s mission and vision, while maintaining the integrity of current library technologies

 

DUTIES: 

  • Assists with the development, instruction and community outreach of technology programs for all age groups, participates in events such as Computer Science Technology Week, Learning Lab Tech Fairs, and Tech Camps.

  • Collaborates with staff to continue the growth and development of the Lending Lab and Robotics kits. 

  • Provides overall technical assistance and support related to computer systems, hardware, software, A/V equipment, online meetings and hybrid presentations, databases and library mobile apps, to internal and external customers via phone and desk side support, as well as providing one-on-one tech help sessions.

  • Presents at outreach events and participates in professional organizations.

  • Trains and keeps staff up-to-date with changes and developments in A/V equipment and online platforms (Zoom, Google Meet, etc.) for conducting meetings and presentations or hybrid presentations.

  • Trains staff and assists patrons with the creation of podcasts, and videos, including edition and production. 

  • Attends and participates in professional library conferences, seminars, and network committees; reads professional literature; attends and participates in staff meeting discussions.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MIS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program required. 

  • Experience exploring and/or teaching new technologies

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of current trends in technology.

  • Aptitude in OS repairs, hardware, upgrades and troubleshooting. 

  • Ability to utilize any/all tools available in order to remedy minor computer equipment malfunctions. 

  • Knowledge of methodology to operate computer systems and to troubleshoot minor computer equipment malfunctions. 

  • Knowledge of mobile devices and library apps. 

  • Knowledge of standard library procedures, current information technology, Internet and database search capabilities.

  • Installation and configuration of PCs and printers.

Overview
Located within the New York Public Library’s Digital Research Division, the Metadata Services Unit (MSU) improves access and discovery of library resources through Digital Collections and strengthens data interoperability across the library through metadata production services, software development support, and metadata strategy. Our team supports and engages staff in efficient metadata creation for digitization, offering development and documentation of local standards and practices, project consultation, quality control, staff training, and works to raise awareness and connect stakeholders across NYPL concerning metadata. The MSU also supports the improvement and maintenance of our Metadata Management System (MMS) and online Digital Collections through data modeling, data mapping and enrichment, record assessment and cleanup, and staff user services. 
MSU seeks candidates enthusiastic about metadata and the future of libraries for the position of Metadata Specialist II. The Metadata Specialist II balances high productivity and high quality output to wrangle metadata across a corpus of more than a million metadata records. Strong interpersonal and written skills are key to supporting quality metadata creation and remediation across NYPL research library divisions and within a cooperative team environment. Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of the Health Sciences Library, the Health Sciences Librarian will contribute to the University Libraries’ suite of services, including reference and instruction, research support services, collection development, and other liaison and outreach responsibilities. The position works primarily with the School of Nursing, but will also be part of a team that supports the five health sciences schools, various clinical departments, and medical research centers. The successful candidate will:

 

  • Work closely with faculty to establish library programs, services, and activities that meet instructional, research, and clinical needs of the School of Nursing and other assigned clinical areas.

  • Provide information and instructional services, both in person and online. This may include the creation of asynchronous learning tools/objects. 

  • Provide in depth reference consultation and instruction on the development of literature searches in support of evidence-based practice and systematic reviews.  

  • Develop and host workshops and programs on various topics appealing to a wide range of library constituents.

In accordance with the New York State Department of Health (DOH) regulation that all hospitals and nursing homes “continuously require all personnel to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19,” Candidates who are not already vaccinated must obtain the first dose of the vaccine within three (3) calendar days of acceptance of conditional job offer and must obtain any subsequent doses in accordance with the vaccine protocol. Candidates who are partially vaccinated, but not yet fully vaccinated, must complete their vaccination series within three (3) calendar days of job offer or in accordance with vaccine manufacture protocol, whichever comes later. The regulation also includes those who may be affiliated with or interact with employees of a hospital or nursing home. The regulation allows for limited exemptions with reasonable accommodations, consistent with applicable law.

The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation.

The mission of the Health Sciences Library (HSL) is to provide the quality resources and excellent service needed to support the educational, research, and clinical activities of the Stony Brook University health sciences community.

The HSL supports teaching, research and patient care in six programs: Medicine, Dental Medicine, Health Professions, Nursing, Public Health, and Social Welfare. The HSL also supports research and patient care for the University Hospital and the Long Island State Veterans Home and outpatient clinics. The University Libraries is also committed to support the work of SBU faculty and students abroad through the Office of Global Library Initiatives.

The HSL is a member of the Northeast Research Libraries consortium (NERL), the Association of Research Libraries, and the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL). The library also functions as a regional resource, assisting health care professionals throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties.

The library maintains a current print collection of over 170,000 physical serial and monograph volumes, and access to over 5,000 electronic journal subscriptions. Additionally, the library supports access to 183 electronic research databases, including AccessMedicine, ClinicalKey,  EMBASE, MEDLINE,  UpToDate, and Web of Science. The HSL is part of the larger Stony Brook University Libraries system with 6 distinct facilities, including the Melville Library, Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry, Math/Physics, Southampton and Health Sciences.  The library system shares resources across campuses, expanding access to interdisciplinary resources which are accessible for all Stony Brook faculty, staff, and students.  SBU is a comprehensive research-intensive university and a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU), which includes 34 public universities among its 62 members.  Stony Brook is also one of 64 State University of New York (SUNY) institutions.
