F/T - Ref Librarian, NYU Law Library (NY)

Notice of Position Vacancy and Search
Position: Reference Librarian (Entry-Level)
 
This entry-level reference position is one of a team of professional librarians in the Research & Scholarship Department, and reports to the Associate Director for Research & Scholarship and will focus on scholarly promotion. The principal duties of this position are providing reference service to our faculty and students, serving as a library liaison to various faculty members, teaching instructional sessions to various constituencies, creating research guides in areas of subject specialization, and participating in collection development activities. In addition, this position will be responsible for overseeing the look and layout of the faculty’s scholarly profiles, promoting library events and services through social media and physical displays, and ensuring consistency of the library’s messaging. 
 
Duties & Responsibilities
Serving as a member of the Law Library’s Reference Team, the candidate is expected to be able to:
o Provide high-caliber legal reference service to Law School faculty and students.
o Serve as a library liaison, and provide proactive and personalized library services for faculty, including complex research, research assistant training and the tracking of faculty scholarship.
o Assist in the staffing of the in-person and virtual reference desk, a task that entails some evening and weekend hours.
o Author and update research guides, bibliographies, and other types of instructional material.
o Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Serving as a member of the Law Library’s Scholarly Communications Team, the candidate is expected to be able to:
o Monitor the faculty’s scholarly profiles to ensure consistency and update information, such as titles, when necessary.
o Organize the transfer of profiles to the NYU Law affiliation for any new faculty.
o Stay abreast of trends and developments in scholarly profiles and enhance that knowledge among other library staff members.
o Provide training as needed.
o Participate in additional scholarly communication projects as assigned.
 
Serving as a member of the Law Library’s Social Media & Promotional Team, the candidate is expected to be able to:
o Collaborate with other members of the Team to promote the Law Library’s resources and increase engagement with our faculty and students
o Generate content that can be used across different platforms including but not limited to social media, the Law Library’s website, NYU Law’s communication channels, flyers, and physical displays.
o Act as quality control to ensure that messaging regarding the Law Library’s services are consistent on the Law Library’s website, handbooks for faculty, and other publicly or institutionally distributed materials.

o Build relationships with student affiliate groups and Centers and suggest programming and other outreach measures to the Associate Director for Research & Scholarship.

Required Qualifications & Experience:
J.D.
Demonstrated legal research skills.
Experience or interest in the use of social media and other marketing measures to promote events, services, and resources.
Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail in messaging across several platforms.
 
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
M.L.S. We will also consider candidates who are in the process of obtaining their degree, or have an interested in pursuing a degree. Partial scholarship support may be available to those currently pursing or considering pursuing a MLS degree.
0–3 years of professional law library experience. Experience obtained while a student will be considered.
Knowledge or interest in Scholarly Communications.
Interest or experience with Canva and other common tools used to generate promotional content and videos.
 
Classification
This is a non-tenure track faculty (Assistant Librarian of Practice) position, and after the first year is eligible for multi-year contracts. 
 
Salary
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $79,000-$98,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. Excellent benefits package.

P/T - Ref Librarian, Great Neck Library (NY)

Part Time Librarian 

Reference Department 


The Great Neck Library is a multi-branch system seeking an energetic, detail oriented, service driven Librarian in the Reference Department for a very active, culturally diverse library system in a highly educated community. The successful candidate will assist patrons in finding books, other materials, and information both on-line and in print, reader’s advisory, digital services, collection development and adult programming. Excellent interpersonal, communication and professional skills are a must. 

Duties and Responsibilities include: 

• Database searching, computer assistance, resource selection and collection development, book discussions and book displays. 

• Position may involve prolonged periods of sitting and lifting of up to 25 lbs. 

• Other duties as assigned Qualifications & Experience Required: 

• Knowledge of First Search, Microsoft Word and Excel preferred 

• MLS or MLIS from ALA accredited institution 

• New York State Public Librarian’s Professional Certificate required at time of employment 


Schedule: 

Part Time - Nights and Saturdays. Sundays as needed. 


Starting Salary Range: 

Part Time: $30.00 per hour
