Job Description:

The Systems and Learning Technologies Librarian will work collaboratively with others to identify, develop, deploy, and manage new and existing technologies to support library services, teaching and learning, research and creative endeavors.  This position will require innovation, creativity and a willingness to problem solve.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the integrated library management system (Alma), discovery tool (Primo) and electronic resource access, troubleshoot issues that may arise with these tools and provide library systems support to library colleagues
  • Serve as administrator for subscribed Springshare products
  • Coordinates the implementation and maintenance of new library software, electronic resources and upgrades
  • Work collaboratively with others within the library and across campus on systems-related, technology-related, and digitally-based services and projects
  • Manage the evolving slate of library technology service operations
  • Engage faculty and students to explore new technologies around which the Library may build research and learning support services
  • Participate in the collaborative library-wide effort to extend technology learning support to students and faculty across the curriculum through resource development, training and communication
  • Responsible for all facets and complexities of the Electronic Resources life-cycle
  • Work closely with the Content Management Librarian to identify new e-resources, and evaluate & assess collections for content, discoverability and ease of access
  • Communicate changes in content and platforms to library faculty and staff in a timely and effective manner
  • Generate and maintain customized reports for library systems and learning technologies
  • Participate in library instruction, including creation of research guides in collaboration with fellow librarians, teaches general library research classes to undergraduate and graduate students and develops customized supplementary materials/tools as needed for instruction sessions Trains staff and student workers as necessary
  • Provide general and specialized reference service in person and virtually
  • Serve as a subject liaison for developing resources and collections
  • Participate in professional service and research activities in support of promotion and tenure requirements
  • Serve on college and library committees, participates in local, regional, and national associations, and engages in scholarly activity required for promotion and tenure
  • Additional duties as assigned


Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of experience in an academic or research library
  • Master's degree in information and/or library science from an ALA-accredited school or an ALA approved foreign equivalent
  • High degree of current awareness in computers and related technologies in emerging use at institutions of higher education
  • Strong understanding of electronic resource management and library systems
  • Familiarity with supporting off campus-access to licensed resources and the role of access and identity management technologies such as proxy server
  • Demonstrated collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and perform complicated tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing assignments and needs
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in academic librarianship
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends

Preferred  Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated technical-support skills
  • Familiarity with current issues in library technologies
  • Familiarity with Ex Libris library systems products
  • Knowledge of HTML/JavaScript/CSS
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and report data
  • Aptitude for teaching and developing instructional content and documentation


Additional Information:

Classification/Salary Range: The Systems and Learning Technologies Librarian is a United University Professions (UUP) position.  The anticipated salary range for the position is $50,000 - $55,000 annually, with an outstanding benefits package. P/T - Adult Ref Librarian, Suffern Free Lib (NY)

 

HOURLY ADULT REFERENCE LIBRARIAN 

  

The Suffern Free Library is seeking a reliable, flexible person with excellent customer service skills to join our Adult Information/Reference Department.  We are a public library located in the village of Suffern in Rockland County, New York and serving a population of 28,600 residents.   

  

HOURS:  

Hours: Up to 15 hours a week.  The Library is currently open 6 days a week but is planning to expand to 7 days per week in the Fall. Applicants must be able to work Monday and Tuesday nights (from 4pm to 7pm or 6pm to 9pm) when we open fully. Weekday, other evening and weekend hours might also be necessary.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Duties include reference services, collection development, readers' advisory and one-on-one computer/database assistance.   

  

REQUIREMENTS:  

This position requires: excellent computer skills; the ability to offer assistance with Microsoft Office Suite 2010 or newer, eReaders, tablets and digital resources including OverDrive, Hoopla and Freading; to be attentive to detail; the ability to express ideas clearly and accurately, both orally and in writing; the ability to multi-task, and to interact tactfully and courteously with patrons and staff.  Symphony Workflows experience is desirable.     

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:    

Must have an MLIS from an accredited library school or be currently enrolled in an MLIS program.  Knowledge of Sirsi-Dynix Symphony Workflows and Spanish language fluency a plus.  

  

COVID-19 CONSIDERATIONS:  

Applicants must be able to follow all of the Library’s COVID-19 health protocols including being able to tolerate a proper face covering for the duration of the work shift, maintaining social distancing, and maintaining hand hygiene through the use hand sanitizer and frequent hand washing.  Completion of a daily health questionnaire is also required.  Applicants must also be willing to participate in sanitizing patron and staff workstations through the use of cleaning and sanitizing solutions.

The Ursula C. Schwerin Library at New York City College of Technology, CUNY, seeks a tenure-track library faculty member at the Instructor or Assistant Professor rank to serve as Technical Services & Electronic Resources Librarian. Reporting to the Chief Librarian, the successful candidate will be responsible for the library's cataloging, serials, and electronic resources operations, working with colleagues in the library and at the college and university. The Technical Services & Electronic Resources Librarian will also offer reference and be responsible for designated subject specialist liaison activities. All members of the library faculty must maintain a record of excellence in librarianship, scholarly achievement, and service. The Ursula C. The Technical Services and Electronic Resources Librarian will:

- Perform original cataloging, and oversee and maintain vendor-ready cataloging for print and ebooks and serials.

- Coordinate electronic resources workflow including ejournal holdings, database trials and subscription set up, and outreach and publicity for new resources.

- Manage print journals and continuations including claiming and other typical print serials functions.

- Supervise full-time support staff.

- Represent City Tech on the CUNY Office of Library Services Cataloging Committee, Electronic Resources Management Committee, and Electronic Resources Advisory Committee.

- Work as subject specialist in assigned curricular areas, including collection development, communication and consultation with subject faculty, and reference and information literacy instruction.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

- Master's in Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) or closely related discipline from an ALA-accredited institution

- A second master’s degree OR doctorate is required for appointment as tenure-track Assistant Professor; if appointed as Instructor, the candidate will be expected to complete an additional graduate degree within 5 years (CUNY tuition remission is available)

- Experience in library technical services, electronic resources, or related field

- An interest in scholarship or creative achievement appropriate for a tenure-track position

- Strong oral and written communication skills, and strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills

- Excellent interpersonal and leadership qualities, a commitment to collaboration and mutual respect, and the ability to work efficiently and effectively on shared projects and committees in our multicultural library and college/university community

Preferred Qualifications:

- Supervisory experience

- Experience working in an academic or research library

- Background, experience, or degree in STEM fields, especially health sciences or engineering technologies

- Familiarity with Ex Libris, OCLC, or related products

- Knowledge of cataloging best practices, familiarity with RDA

- Familiarity with assessment practices in libraries and higher education

The Oceanside Library, in Oceanside, NY, is seeking a high-performing, enthusiastic, friendly and creative Librarian to join our team. 

Duties include, but not limited to:

        Provide assistance to patrons with technology devices: public computers, laptops, Chromebooks, iPads, eReaders: Kindles, tablets, etc.

        Provide general public desk duties, reader’s advisory, collection development and provide assistance with databases, eBooks and eAudiobooks.

        Assist patrons with registering for programs and library services.

        Assist with programs on and offsite.

Minimum Qualifications:

        MLS degree from an ALA accredited college or university.

        NYS Librarians Certificate.

        MUST be able to work a flexible weekend schedule – Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sunday as needed.

        Ability and willingness to provide excellent customer service and hospitality, and work with patrons of all ages.

        Knowledge of SIERRA, Encore, EventKeeper, Apps and Social Media is a plus.

Senior Librarian, NY School of Interior Design (NY)

 

Job Title:  Senior Librarian 

 

Position Overview:  The New York School of Interior Design, an accredited, independent institution of higher education devoted entirely to the discipline of interior design and its related professions, seeks an individual to serve as Senior Librarian.   

 

Reporting to the Director of the Library, the Senior Librarian manages the day-to day operations of the Library’s public and technical services activities, including the two materials libraries and supervision of all library student workers for coverage of the Library’s circulation and reference desk. This person also serves as the coordinator of instructional programs and services to the NYSID communities.  Working with the Director of the Library, the Senior Librarian develops the Library’s collection development policy, maintains the library collections, and process acquisitions and donations following established guidelines and criteria. The Senior Librarian also assists the Director with selection and evaluation of electronic resources and negotiation of licenses with vendors. The Senior Librarian plays a leadership role in adopting and implementing new and creative technologies and workflow in the above-mentioned areas. This person also coordinates with NYU’s Knowledge Access & Resource Management Services (KARMS) for routine cataloging and database maintenance tasks. The Senior Librarian will serve as the backup of the Director when s/he is absent. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Library’s circulation desk, including scheduling desk coverage, supervision and training of all student workers, managing the Reserves collection, and providing circulation and reference services when needed. 
  • Working with other librarians, assess and determine the levels of library services, formulate and document library procedures and policies pertaining to its services, recommend and implement new service models if necessary. 
  • Serve as the coordinator of instructional programs and services, library tours and orientation sessions for NYSID students, faculty and staff; assess the need and effectiveness of the Library’s instructional program/model. 
  • Assume the leadership role in introducing and implementing new library/information technologies pertaining to public and instructional services, including but not limited to WordPress (on which the library website is built), LibGuides, Omeka, and other social media channels. 
  • Manage The Mario Buatta Materials Atelier on the 2nd floor of NYSID’s 70th Street building (Main Campus), and The Ruth and C.J. Trimble Materials Collection on the 3rd Floor of NYSID’s Graduate Center.  
  • Working with the Director, develop relationships with vendors and firms to ensure steady supply of new material samples. 
  • Working with the Director, develop and fine-tune the Library’s collection development policy, process acquisitions and donations following established guidelines and criteria. 
  • Assist the Director with selection and evaluation of electronic resources; may need to negotiate terms and conditions of licenses and access protocols with vendors. 
  • Maintain the Library’s collections, including performing inventory and implementing yearly shelf-read workflow, weeding, tracing lost books, and recommending books for replacement.  
  • Assess preservation needs for the collection, including training student workers to perform simple book repairs or coordinating with vendors for professional bindery or preservation services. 
  • Working with Facilities, develop and maintain the Library’s written disaster plan, providing training in disaster prevention and preparedness for library staff and student workers. 
  • Coordinate with NYU’s Knowledge Access & Resource Management Services (KARMS) to perform routine cataloging and database maintenance tasks, including serials subscription, holdings and item record maintenance. Manage serials check-in, claims and annual renewals. 
  • Maintain and collect statistics relevant to the above-mentioned areas. 
  • Serve as the backup of the Director when s/he is absent. 
  • Other duties, projects and activities as may become necessary. 

 

Qualifications: 


MLS from an ALA-accredited institution.  Bachelors in art history, fine arts, design or architecture preferred.  At least 6 years’ experience in an academic or research library environment with specialization in circulation, reference, or library instruction services.  Proven experience in managing part-time staff or student workers.   Experience in formulating and documenting library procedures and policies. Experience using integrated library systems, such as Aleph, particularly the circulation module; basic knowledge of MARC cataloging and acquisition records.  Strong technical skills of evaluating and employing a variety of new Web tools, systems platforms, and social media channels to facilitate and promote library services and operations.  Experience with collection development and library instructional programs preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills for lectures, presentations, and working with library/archives users, staff, and outside donors.   Professional committee memberships/activities in related organizations, such as ARLIS/NA, VRA, SAA, ALA, or ACRL, desirable.   May be required to cover some evening or weekend shifts.  Ability to perform physical activities associate with archival collections.
