Adult Prog & Outreach Lib, John Jermain Lib (NY)

Adult Program & Outreach Librarian


The John Jermain Memorial Library is seeking an Adult Program and Outreach Librarian to supervise, plan, promote and facilitate adult programs. The successful candidate will be community focused; with an eye towards offering a wide variety of programs to meet the needs and desires of our diverse community.


Responsibilities:


• Schedule programs for adults on a quarterly basis. (Spring: March, April, May; Summer: June, July, August; Fall: September, October, November; Winter: December, January, February)
• Plan and execute educational, technical, entertaining programming for an audience of adults including, but not limited to: language learning, concerts, book discussions, art appreciation and/or instruction, films, current events, discussion groups, cooking demonstrations, travel, health and safety, or other topics of interest to our stakeholders.
• Schedule and maintain relationships with current Library program facilitators.
• With the Library’s Executive Director, initiate and maintain relationships with local organizations as partners in library programs.
• Seek out and facilitate off site programming opportunities in conjunction with community partners or as community outreach.
• Collaborate with Director, Youth Services, Emerging Technologies and Local Content Librarians and support staff to provide interesting and engaging programing geared toward these specific interests.
• Work to identify and address needs of our community which the Library can fulfill. (i.e. English as a Next Language classes, citizenship help, Medicare enrollment information, CPR, Narcan use, etc.)
• Market and publicize programs for adults including but not limited to creation of flyers, press releases, social media posts and copy for eblasts and print newsletter.
• Work in conjunction with Emerging Technologies Librarian to curate social media and website content.
• Facilitate Summer & Winter Reading Club.
• Negotiate and execute contracts with programmers.
• Order food and supplies required for programs.
• Work within the programming budget.
• Record and report monthly attendance statistics to the Executive Director.
• Attend local and countywide meetings targeting programming and publicity.
• Represent JJML at Libraries Nourish Meetings.
• Participate in professional development related to the duties of this position
• General Reference Librarian duties when covering the Reference Desk
• Other duties as assigned.


Education & Qualifications:

• A Master's Degree in Library & Information Science (MLIS) or an equivalent degree from a library school that is accredited by the American Library Association or registered with the New York State Education Department
• Must possess or be eligible for the NYS Public Librarian’s Certificate
• Ability to express oneself verbally and in writing
• Flexibility, initiative, energy, and patience to deal effectively with the public
• Excellent people skills
• Planning and organizational skills needed
• Experience working collaboratively as part of a team
• Experience using social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram
• Working knowledge of eNewsletter software including Mailchimp
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, working knowledge of Adobe and Canva


Benefits & Salary: 

This full-time, salaried position may include evening and weekend hours. Competitive salary ($60,000-$64,000) commensurate with experience. Benefits include NYSHIP health insurance, TIAA CREF 403(b) retirement plan, paid vacation and sick leave, and partial-tuition reimbursement.
