Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Head of Reference, the Research & Instruction Librarian provides the full range of in-person and online reference services to the vibrant and diverse Montclair State community. The Librarian teaches library instruction and information literacy classes in all disciplines at all levels. The Librarian serves as liaison to one or more academic departments. This 12-month, tenure-track position has the concurrent academic rank of Assistant Professor.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches information literacy classes and workshops at all levels.

  • Provides in-person and online (e.g. chat, Zoom) research and reference services, with some evening and weekend schedules on a rotating basis.

  • Conducts individual and small group research consultations in-person and online.

  • Creates Research Guides for courses and disciplines.

  • Serves as liaison to one or more departments and builds relationships with faculty and instructors.

  • Serves on Library and University committees.

  • Keeps informed of library policies and procedures.

  • Participates in local, statewide, and national professional activities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • BA/BS from an accredited college or university.

  • Masters Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school.

  • A minimum of three (3) years of professional academic library experience.

  • Reference and instruction experience in an academic library.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and constructively.

  • Ability to work independently, collegially, and productively in a team environment.

  • History of or strong potential for scholarly, creative, or professional work appropriate to this tenure track position.

  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse groups (including non-traditional students).

   

PREFERRED:

  • Second Masters degree in an academic discipline, especially the Health Sciences, Business, Economics, or Legal Studies.

  • Experience with web design, user experience, assessment, scholarly communication or open access services.

  • Experience providing liaison services and collection development in an academic library.

  • Fluency in Spanish
