F/T - Acquisitions Specialist, Adelphi U (NY)

 
Acquisitions Specialist

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision of the unit head, the Acquisitions Specialist will independently handle a variety of functions, including: supervising acquisitions staff and the daily operations of the acquisitions unit; communicating with vendors to resolve problems with orders, payments, or access; assisting with the management of electronic resources; and assisting the Acquisition Strategies Librarian with other projects as needed.

REPORTS TO: Acquisition Strategies Librarian

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  1. Supervise and train acquisitions staff.
  2. Order library materials, create Alma invoices, and investigate issues related to delivery, activation, and/or payment. As supervisor, oversee staff work and provide first-level approval of invoices.
  3. Oversee receiving and claiming of printed materials.
  4. Work with vendors as needed to obtain products and services.
  5. Assist in collecting and compiling statistics and reports.
  6. Coordinate with other library units to help improve workflows and documentation, maintain accurate Alma records, help set up e-resources, and troubleshoot access issues.
  7. As part of the electronic resources team, participate in team projects and help investigate and resolve problems.
  8. Respond to internal questions about the status of orders.
  9. Respond to questions about unit operations in the absence of the unit head.
  10. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
  1. Supervisory experience, preferably in an academic setting.
  2. Experience working with and/or learning a variety of technologies and automated systems, such as Alma and GOBI (YBP/EBSCO).
  3. Demonstrated ability to organize and set priorities.
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  5. Accuracy and attention to detail in order to maintain data integrity.
  6. Ability to maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationships with peers, supervisors, and library users.
  7. Ability to work with a diverse population of domestic and international students, staff and faculty.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Physical ability to push heavy carts and lift and hold up to 10lbs.
  2. Physical ability to shelve and retrieve materials on high and low shelves.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Bachelor's degree required.
  2. Library experience in a college or university setting, preferably in technical services.
  3. Demonstrated proficiency with email and office productivity software, including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Microsoft Word, and Excel.

HOURS OF WORK:
  1. The regular workday is Monday - Friday, seven (7) hours a day between 8:00am and 6:00pm, thirty-five (35) hours a week.
  2. Flexibility in work hours will be required to accommodate the Library's needs and changes in Library hours, both permanent and temporary, especially during intersessions and summer sessions.
