Assistant/Associate/Full Professor and Collections and Open Strategies Librarian (Tenure Track)

JOB SUMMARY:
Adelphi University Libraries is seeking a forward-thinking professional for the position of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor and Collections and Open Strategies Librarian. This position provides leadership and direction for the development and management of the Libraries' collections in all formats, ensuring that the scope and quality of the resources which the Libraries hold or provide access to are appropriate to support the teaching and research mission of Adelphi University. This position will increase the impact and reach of Adelphi’s research and scholarship by supporting, innovating, and advancing open and sustainable models for knowledge generation, dissemination, and publishing. Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor and Collections and Open Strategies Librarian will direct the library’s collections and open strategies program. The position will also oversee a growing open access program, provide outreach to faculty in support of scholarly communications reform, and serve as an internal resource for content licensing policy and negotiations. This Assistant/Associate/Full Professor and Collections and Open Strategies Librarian is an open rank and tenure track position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work cooperatively with Library faculty liaisons/subject selectors in the development of Library resources across all formats and access methods.
- Coordinate the selection of diverse, inclusive, and accessible resources.
- Collaborate with library faculty and staff in collection building with open resources, and oversee a growing open access program by providing outreach to faculty in support of scholarly communications reform.
- Advance scholarly publishing reform and promote open and sustainable publishing models.
- Lead collection and open strategies in support of Adelphi’s current needs.
- Develop and oversee the use of evidence-based, data-driven assessment metrics.
- Ensure principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion are fully integrated in the library’s collections and open strategies.
- Participate in and bring Adelphi’s values and mission to national and international efforts to create models and infrastructures to advance Open Scholarship.
- Run reports at the end of the fiscal year for departmental support, and for reporting within the University and to outside stakeholders (such as the Association of College & Research Libraries).
- Develop collection analysis and assessment practices in the context of library priorities and campus needs.
- Effectively collaborate across a diverse community, including maintaining close working relationships with campus and consortia partners as well as with content providers and vendors.
- In coordination with the Dean of Libraries and the Acquisition Strategies Librarian, manage and monitor the appropriation, encumbrance and expenditure of the materials budget.
- Manage conservation and preservation activities that maintain the integrity of the physical collections.
- In collaboration with library faculty subject liaisons, provide leadership in planning and executing deselection and transfer projects for physical collections and identifying alternate formats as appropriate.
- Lead the Collection Strategies unit and staff.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Think and act strategically to bring concepts to realization while meeting deadlines.
- Work independently and collaboratively with a diverse population of faculty/staff, students and colleagues.
- Communicate effectively both in-person and virtually using various media and technologies.
- Undertake liaison responsibilities for one or more schools or departments, with related reference and instruction duties as required.
- Serve on university and library committees.
- Participate in professional associations and activities.
- Participate in scholarly activities including research and publication as required for reappointment, promotion and tenure.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Applicants must hold a master’s degree from an ALA accredited school of library/information science.
- A second post-baccalaureate degree or similar proof of advanced study is highly preferred and is required for promotion and tenure.
- Applicants must demonstrate evidence of ability to meet criteria for promotion and tenure.
- Knowledge of current issues and trends in collection development.
- Knowledge of the assessment, negotiation, selection, licensing and acquisition of library content in all formats.
- Experience and/or knowledge of open access business models and agreements.
- Applicants must possess excellent supervisory, interpersonal and communications skills as well as the ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a collegial, culturally diverse environment.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new technology tools/skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to formulate and implement innovative approaches and solutions to problems.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social justice.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Project management experience.
- Experience with data analytics and assessment metrics.
