Job Summary
The librarian will embed metaliteracy competencies in Drexel curriculum learning outcomes through partnerships with faculty. As a member of a team of subject librarians, the librarian will provide their design or applied arts expertise in information resources, tools, pedagogy, and research across Drexel’s academic programs.
Essential Functions
- Collaborate with other librarians, faculty, and students to help integrate knowledge of multiple literacies, information resources, and information-seeking behaviors into Drexel curricula, with particular emphasis on design and applied arts.
- Provide reference services and consultations through in-person, videoconferencing software, chat, phone, email, and events
- Apply design or applied arts knowledge and expertise in supporting selection and acquisition decisions for scholarly content, including selection of materials for licensing and procurement, as well as resource sharing services and client self-directed use of web-hosted information.
- Develop learning objects, such as library guides and tutorials, that assist clients to find, access, evaluate, and use information
- Actively foster relationships with faculty, staff, and students to contribute to the libraries’ communication and marketing program and to its continual service quality improvement efforts
- Proactively contribute to strengthening the libraries’ culture of diversity, equity, and inclusiveness
- Contribute professionally through external service, publications, or presentations
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree, Library, and Information Sciences
- A minimum of 3 years related experience
Other requirements
- Undergraduate degree, graduate coursework, and/or professional experience in design or applied arts
- Demonstrated knowledge of design and applied arts information resources, tools, and scholarly trends
- Demonstrated knowledge of design and applied arts pedagogy and current instructional techniques
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong customer service orientation and commitment to inclusiveness of diverse ideas and perspectives
- Evidence of self-motivation to address new challenges, ability to solve problems with minimal supervision and commitment to learn new knowledge and skills
- Excellent organizational skills, including time and project management
- Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic matrixed team environment
- Demonstrated involvement and contribution to the profession through service, presentations, publications, and/or research
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and welcoming work environment in both physical and online spaces
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a library or academic setting
- Advanced degree in Design Thinking, Industrial or Product Design, Media Arts, or related fields
