Responsibilities & Requirements: Reporting to the Director of Access & User Services, the Research & User Services Librarian is responsible for management of the Stony Brook Southampton campus library. The selected incumbent will be responsible for general and specialized reference, library instruction, liaison responsibilities, collection development, relevant policy development, supervision of support staff and students, working closely with facilities and other Southampton departments and units to provide library services and programs, as well as managing a virtual presence for the Southampton library. The selected candidate will be responsible for professional participation in research, publication, teaching and service in consonance with University standards for promotion and tenure. The successful candidate will:
- Develop strong relationships with academic programs and faculty to align library resources and services with research and learning goals, according to the Liaison Program guidelines.
- Explore opportunities for library integration into the curriculum, such as information literacy, research guides, curriculum development, and consultations.
- Conduct needs assessment activities with library users for improving services and resources.
- Maintain and evaluate statistics on use and outreach data to make data-driven decisions.
- Expand outreach activities that will engage and benefit the SH campus and community.
- Explore opportunities to promote library resources and services through workshops, programming, collections, partnerships.
- Update collection development and management plans.
- Establish and maintain strong communication channels with remote and in-person disciplinary faculty, patrons, and library colleagues on all campuses.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS degree. Relevant experience in a library. Evidence of ability to meet research, scholarship, and service requirements for promotion and tenure. Demonstrated proficiency with emerging learning and research technologies.
Preferred Qualifications: Degree in related field of studies at Stony Brook Southampton. Reference and instruction experience in an academic, medical or special library. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities and to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently. Teaching experience in a formal setting and/or knowledge of information literacy. Experience building and sustaining collections in all formats. Demonstrated success in supervisory role. Experience managing facilities or building maintenance issues.
