Program Manager, METRO (NY)

 Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO) seeks a Program Manager to manage our professional development program. The ideal candidate has a deep knowledge of the library, archives, and information sciences field and is committed to providing the highest level of service to members of the METRO community.

Reporting to the Assistant Director for Programs and Partnerships, the Program Manager is responsible for identifying topic areas of interest to the library and archives community in New York City and Westchester County. This includes — but is not limited to — webinars, community calls and other networking opportunities, in-person events (when possible), and multi-session workshops and courses.

Working with a small team, the Program Manager will oversee the contracting process with instructors and facilitators. Daily responsibilities will include managing METRO’s events data, providing technical support for online classes, representing METRO at in-person events, and liaising with workshop attendees. They will be responsible for editing audio and video recordings.

The ideal candidate brings a passion for the topics that come under the umbrella of library science and archival management, as well as a customer-focused approach to all aspects of their work. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and editor.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Direct oversight of and shared responsibility for METRO’s continuing education program
    • Identifying, recruiting, and contracting with instructors, facilitators, and other speakers independently as well as alongside colleagues within METRO
    • Managing the payment process for instructors, facilitators, and other speakers
    • Working with METRO’s Director for Programs and Partnerships on managing the events budget
    • Moderating webinars and other events. This includes introducing speakers, providing essential updates, and managing Q & A on behalf of audience members
    • Providing technical assistance at webinars
    • Providing on-site assistance at live events
    • Acting as METRO’s liaison for event venues (when possible)

 

  • Managing communications regarding METRO events
    • Updating the calendar and the events archive on metro.org
    • Writing and sending events announcements on METRO’s Newsletter, our community discussion list, and via social media

 

  • Oversight of METRO’s workshop outputs and other media
    • Overseeing METRO’s webinar recording and editing process
    • Editing recordings of METRO’s recorded webinars
    • Managing METRO’s YouTube channel
    • Writing and editing event summaries as needed
    • Distributing event materials to participants
    • Issuing certificates to participants
    • Working with the team to produce and edit podcasts

 

  • Data management
    • Ensuring proper accounting of METRO’s events data
    • Preparing reports for METRO’s program partners as well as New York State

 

  • Providing support for meetings germane to the Programs and Partnerships team, as time allows. Those includes meetings with:
    • Equity In Action and other grant recipients
    • Interest Group organizers
    • Professional Development Advisory Council members
    • Workshop instructors, facilitators, and other speakers
    • Other groups as they arise

 

The successful candidate is expected to be comfortable using online scheduling software, entering content into a CMS, and quickly evaluating and adapting to new software and other web-based tools as they are needed for the job. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and editor. They may also be expected to contribute to the development of internship or fellowship programs.

This is a full time, customer(member)-facing position. METRO is looking forward to a time when we will be able to gather in person once more; to accommodate these plans, the successful candidate must be local to New York City and Westchester County, or must be willing to relocate.

Compensation for this position is $65,000. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision plans.
