P/T - Open Education Lib, CUNY-BMCC (NY)

 Open Education Librarian (12–15 hours/week)

(Non-teaching Adjunct position, through June 30, 2027, with possibility to renew)

The A. Philip Randolph Memorial Library at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) seeks a creative and motivated professional for the position of part-time Open Education (OE) Librarian to join the Library’s open knowledge team. Reporting to the Open Knowledge Librarian, the OE Librarian will support faculty creating Open Educational Resources (OER), as well as supporting faculty using OER and other no-cost resources to ensure accessibility of course materials

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
  • In collaboration with others on the open knowledge team, provide faculty who are creating Open Educational Resources with support in:
    • Using Pressbooks and, as needed, troubleshooting on the platform
    • Using principles of instructional design to create well-structured and accessible OER 
    • Finding resources to adapt or include in their work (e.g., openly licensed images)
    • Time management and the creative process
    • Selecting a Creative Commons license
    • Preparing their work for public distribution
    • Promoting their work to colleagues at BMCC, CUNY, and beyond
  • In collaboration with others on the open knowledge team, support faculty in ensuring their OER and no-cost course materials are accessible, including guiding faculty through accessibility audits and remediation of materials
  • Collaborate with open knowledge team members on other program projects and activities

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in Library Science (ALA accredited)
  • 1–2 years experience in a postsecondary library setting or related environment
  • Experience with digital instructional design
  • Familiarity with accessibility remediation of PDFs, Word documents, videos, etc.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and collaboration skills
  • Self-directed 
  • Demonstrated commitment to participating in and building an anti-racist, inclusive, equitable and diverse campus community

Preferred Qualifications
  • Editorial/publishing experience
  • WordPress experience
  • Familiarity with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards
  • Experience with Brightspace accessibility features
  • Commitment to open knowledge principles and practices
  • Familiarity with copyright, fair use, and Creative Commons licensing
  • Strong service orientation

Schedule is flexible. 

Compensation: Up to 15 hours per week at CUNY Non-teaching Adjunct hourly rate ($53.76/hour).
