F/T - Public Svcs & Archives Lib, CUNY-Queensborough (NY)

Instructor or Assistant Professor - Public Services and Archives Librarian


FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Kurt R. Schmeller Library at Queensborough Community College invites applications for the position of Public Services and Archives Librarian at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor. The candidate will provide reference services, research support, and information literacy instruction; actively promote library services to stakeholders; manage archives operations. The candidate will also develop and implement relevant policies and procedures; serve as a liaison to one or more academic departments; and share responsibility for committee and departmental assignments. Additional duties include performing administrative, supervisory, and other functions as assigned.

Responsibilities :

Coordinate in-person and on-line reference services, including shared CUNY’s Springshare chat service

Generate monthly statistics on reference interactions, in-person, chat and online

Managing and maintaining reference materials

Coordinate with campus print office to replenish citation and research guides

Create, develop, and assess reference policies

Lead the library assessment committee

Update QCC library calendar, including hours and events on the library website

Schedule and monitor reference desk hours

Create, develop, and assess archival policies

Coordinate archive related activities and build a sustainable archive, including scanning/uploading documents, managing appointments, and material retrieval, etc.

Provide outreach to academic and non-academic campus units, including creating and maintaining library promotional materials

Teach information literacy classes and provide reference services in-person & online

Other duties as assigned

Hours include early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS

All titles require a Master's in Library Science (MLS), Master's in Library Information Studies (MLIS), or closely related discipline from an ALA-accredited institution. Also required is the ability to work with others for the good of the institution.

There are two tracks:

  • The requirement for the rank of instructor (non-tenure track) is a Master of Library Science (MLS) or a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or an equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program

  • The requirement for the rank of assistant professor (tenure-track) is an MLS or an MLIS or an equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program and a second master’s degree

Preferred Qualification :

Excellent interpersonal and leadership qualities, a commitment to collaboration and mutual respect, and the ability to work efficiently and effectively on shared projects and committees in our multicultural library and college/university community.

  • Experience using a variety of Springshare products

  • Experience in assessing reference or other library services

  • Experience in teaching information literacy instruction and providing reference services

  • Experience providing outreach to library stakeholders and organizations using innovative library services

  • Demonstrated ability in developing and managing archival digitization projects

  • Knowledge of metadata schemas and archive management tools

  • Experience providing strong customer service to diverse populations

  • Works as part of team and independently by displaying strong leadership and organizational skills

COMPENSATION

Instructor: $71,716 - $79,061. Assistant Professor: $86,741 - $94,909

Library faculty members have an eleven-month calendar with 40 vacation days. Faculty on the Assistant Professor tenure track receives reassigned time to pursue scholarship. For faculty in Assistant Professor rank, continued scholarly and service activities are required for tenure and promotion.

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
