P/T - Adult Ref Librarian, Suffern Free Lib (NY)

 

HOURLY ADULT REFERENCE LIBRARIAN 

  

The Suffern Free Library is seeking a reliable, flexible person with excellent customer service skills to join our Adult Information/Reference Department.  We are a public library located in the village of Suffern in Rockland County, New York and serving a population of 28,600 residents.   

  

HOURS:  

Hours: Up to 15 hours a week.  The Library is currently open 6 days a week but is planning to expand to 7 days per week in the Fall. Applicants must be able to work Monday and Tuesday nights (from 4pm to 7pm or 6pm to 9pm) when we open fully. Weekday, other evening and weekend hours might also be necessary.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Duties include reference services, collection development, readers' advisory and one-on-one computer/database assistance.   

  

REQUIREMENTS:  

This position requires: excellent computer skills; the ability to offer assistance with Microsoft Office Suite 2010 or newer, eReaders, tablets and digital resources including OverDrive, Hoopla and Freading; to be attentive to detail; the ability to express ideas clearly and accurately, both orally and in writing; the ability to multi-task, and to interact tactfully and courteously with patrons and staff.  Symphony Workflows experience is desirable.     

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:    

Must have an MLIS from an accredited library school or be currently enrolled in an MLIS program.  Knowledge of Sirsi-Dynix Symphony Workflows and Spanish language fluency a plus.  

  

COVID-19 CONSIDERATIONS:  

Applicants must be able to follow all of the Library’s COVID-19 health protocols including being able to tolerate a proper face covering for the duration of the work shift, maintaining social distancing, and maintaining hand hygiene through the use hand sanitizer and frequent hand washing.  Completion of a daily health questionnaire is also required.  Applicants must also be willing to participate in sanitizing patron and staff workstations through the use of cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
