EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES LIBRARIAN-Full Time
The Great Neck Library is seeking a dynamic Emerging Technologies Librarian to inspire vision and deliver innovative technology programming for patrons at a very active, culturally diverse library in a highly educated community. The Emerging Technologies Librarian will identify, explore, evaluate, instruct, and implement the use of new and established technology in the library.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Creating, developing, and administering informational, educational, and recreational technology programming for patrons
- Monitoring spaces and tools designed or utilized for patron technology instruction or use
- Develops and conducts instructional computer classes for patrons
- Developing and implementing experiential “Train-the-Trainer” models for staff to provide technology assistance and training to patrons
- Assisting patrons in use of technology
Minimum Qualifications:
- MLS or MLIS from ALA accredited institution
- New York State Public Librarian’s Professional Certificate required at time of employment
- Two years professional librarian experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to create and develop measurable outcome-based programming
Schedule:
Full time – 35 hours/week, includes one night plus Saturday rotation.
Sundays on a voluntary basis.
Starting Salary Range:
The minimum starting salary is $53,260 with full benefit package commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a Union Position.

Emerging Technologies Librarian
Job Summary:
The Emerging Technologies Librarian identifies, explores, evaluates, instructs, and implements the use of new and established technology in the library for patrons and staff.
Responsibilities:

- Adopts and adapts innovation to support patron access to technology
- Develops and conducts instructional computer classes for patrons
- Develops and implements experiential “Train-the-Trainer” models for staff to provide technology assistance and training to patrons
- Evaluates and recommends technology, hardware, software, and applications for use
- Monitors, investigates, and shares emerging technologies
- Researches and analyzes developing technology trends
- Identifies, explores, and instructs usage of social media platforms for patrons
- Assists patrons and staff in use of technology for informational, recreational, and social gain
- Attends internal and external meetings and conferences as needed
- Provides reference service
- Analyzes and selects related materials
- Collects and examines related data and information
- Prepares and submits reports
- Other tasks as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Expert ability in using technology to fulfill job responsibilities and requirements
- Knowledge of library ILS systems and databases
- Ability to enthusiastically present ideas and conduct training for public groups
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and time manage projects and workflow in order to meet deadlines
- Ability to maintain positive internal and external professional relationships
- Knowledge of library policies, principles, and practices
- Demonstrate respect, sensitivity, and knowledge of cultural differences
